ICY DOCK GOT IT!1/6/2015 11:23:44 AM

Pros: I had this unit for over half a year now and it is still working like a champ. I have been using this unit for a lot of data transferring between my old and new drives. It has been pretty reliable so far, no connections drop when transferring. The dust cover for 2.5 is well thought! Other company products does not have this and it will collect dust over time.

Cons: None yet

Love the look!1/6/2015 11:04:30 AM

Pros: I received this as my Christmas present! This enclosure provides all the requirements I need such as USB 3 and the big fan in the front to prevent my hard drives from frying like my older enclosure. I like the idea of adjusting the LED lights and fan speed. I might change the 80mm fan with no LED since lights doesn't really matter to me.

Cons: None yet, will update if there is.

Elegant and fast product!8/4/2014 5:22:36 PM

Pros: I had been looking for some multi drive enclosure for a while. I’m specifically looking for enclosures with JBOD with USB 3.0. It was a simple setup and the fan is removable which makes it easy for me to clean and maintenance the enclosure. I have it hooked up via USB 3.0 and the performance is great for the backups that it holds. I loved how they upgraded the trays and make it compatible with 2.5” drives. It is well made, easy to use and understand, and is going to look great on your desk!

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: At first I was getting issues with the USB 3.0 on my Mac, so I called Icy Dock’s tech support to find out why I was getting such a slow transfer speed. They had the patience to troubleshoot with me step by step. Finally, the problem was that I needed to run OSX update on my Mac. Now, the unit works as expected, thinking about buying another one!

Reliable product5/30/2014 9:10:10 PM

Pros: This enclosure has a sturdy structure and speedy USB 3.0 transfer rate. The cooling fan keeps my drives cool at all time and it has adjustable fan settings too. I can barely hear the fan's noise when it is on my desk and the best thing is that the LED in the front can be turned off so it would not be distracting. I also like the simple tool-less installation, all you need to do is pop the drives in and the computer detects them right away. This is the best USB 3.0 enclosure I've ever had!

Cons: None so far, I will update if I find any problem.

Overall Review: Would recommend!

Dat Star of David3/31/2014 5:21:08 PM

Pros: I've been looking for accessories to replace my Antec 900's front panel cages due to how quickly dust builds up in my enclosure. As a person who enjoys maintaining his computer, I find the Black Vortex to be a very flexible and useful product. To clean my 900, I have to manually remove the two drive cages in my 900 to clean those nasty dust bunnies. With the Icy Dock cage installed in my 900, all I need to do is open the 'front door' of my Black Vortex, take my hard drives out, blow the dust out and vacuum away. Another neat thing about this product is that the 120 mm fan is made more accessible, so replacement is always easy. I personally do not like fans that light up in my case (unless my project requires me to do so), and replacing the given fan with good anti-static fan could help your overall case temperature. That being said, the given fan is still 'good' and quiet enough to live with and I did notice the LEDs could compliment the design language of this particular cage. The Black Vortex could expand possibilities of your enclosure set-up depending on how big your enclosure is. In my Antec 900, I can easily remove all 3 original drive cages and replace them with three Black Vortexes (that is twelve 3.5'' drives!!), making your case capable of doing different RAID configurations. To people who have a standard ATX towers or bigger or has an enclosure capable of fitting two of these cages, this is definitely an interesting buy. Last but not least is how the Black Vortex flatters my cable managing skill with the extra room found on the left and right side of the cage. I still have some non-modular power supply units lurking around in my old computers, and I find the given spaces of the Black Vortex to be very useful for those who do care.

Cons: I wrote this review because I too received the Vortex cage without the said brackets. I e-mail/phoned the support department and they apologized to me immediately and mailed me the missing parts with no questions asked. With a support team that is responsible and patient, it actually prompt me to write this review.

Overall Review: To say that this is a 5 star product would be very generous. To say this is a 1 or 2 star product then I would have just wasted my time writing this review.
