Great drive, great deal.
Pros: Easy to install, easy to use, no burn failures during testing, Lightscribe text/images are clear/readable, data/audio burn speeds are equal to that of other available drives. My first Lightscribe print produced a perfectly usable disc.
Cons: Printing is slow (17 min for high quality, 12 for medium), drive is documented poorly (Lightscribe feature is barely mentioned), software I typically use for playing audio CD's (WinAmp) does not appear to work with the drive (not the drive's fault, just noting that some older software may not be compatible).
Overall Review: It took a bit of doing to get educated about Lightscribe technology. In all it took about half a day to locate, read, and install everything I needed to get Nero to recognize that a Lightscribe device was installed on the system. It's annoying in that all software I tried tries to force you to format everything to the shape of the disc (bent/curved around the disc). Getting the software to not do this was a bit of a headache (though easy now that I know what to look for). I'd definitely recommend this drive to others.
Pros: Fast, performed as expected.
Cons: None in particular.
Overall Review: I was overdue for a CPU upgrade, and one of the games I play recommended this CPU in its system requirements. My previous processor was a 2.8 ghz single core Intel CPU, so pretty much anything was going to be an improvement. Resolved my performance issues and have been able to run all my games at full tilt since upgrading.
Typical Intel value MB
Pros: Well priced basic board. Mother board connectors for LED's, USB ports, HD light are well placed, reasonably well marked.
Cons: None in particular that I can think of. No legacy floppy controller, but I didn't have an issue taking that dinosaur drive out of my machine.
Overall Review: Intel is always a throw of the dice. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. This was one of my better rounds with them. It installed and POST'ed with no issues.
Great card, great price.
Pros: Fast crisp smooth graphics. Have been able to adjust my settings to maximum on all games I play.
Cons: It's huge, and I'm not sure why in this day and age (see Other thoughts). The power connector is in an extremely inconvenient place considering it's size.
Overall Review: When I wrote this, I was inclined to give 4 stars because of the issues I had getting it installed on my system, but it's so darn good, I gave it 5. When I tried to install the card initially, the card was so long I couldn't connect the power dongle because of its proximity to a hard drive. The only way to resolve this was to replace 2 drives with a new large one (probably not an issue for most people, I have more hard drives than most probably). When I upgraded the motherboard a month later, again I had to move a hard drive because the power connector on the card is in such an inconvenient place. This card to replaced my 9500 GT card, and despite the issues getting it installed, I'm very satisfied. As others have mentioned, this card is a 9800 GTX with a face lift, so if you already have one of these, the 250 doesn't offer any improvements for you. This is also my 4th XFX card, and all of them have performed excellently.
Received with Postage Due
Ordered a appliance bulb and choose free shipping. Package arrived with $2.05 postage DUE. I refused the packaged and asked for a refund. NewEgg customer service helped get me the refund. The most frustrating thing at all is the seller NEVER answered a single email from me. I would give ZERO eggs if possible.
