Intel Core i7-3930K - Core i7 3rd Gen Sandy Bridge-E 6-Core 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Desktop Processor - BX80619i73930K
Intel Core i7-3930K - Core i7 3rd Gen Sandy Bridge-E 6-Core 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Desktop Processor - BX80619i73930K

Pros: I built my new workstation - (primary use -After Effects, Cinema 4D and Premiere Pro) around this processor for faster performance -Cinema4D, After Effects and Premiere Pro rely on the video card for previews and scrubbing, but rendering utilizes 100% of CPU. -Render speed increase, comparing to results from my previous build- (Old build: Intel Core i7-920 2.66GHz, Gygabite EX58-UD5 Mobo and 12Gb of OCZ RAM New build:i7-3930K, AsRock Extreme6 MoBo, 32Gb of GSkill RAM same Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU ad SSD boot drive in both systems): Cinema4D v14 render - 30% After Effects CS6 render - 50% Adobe Premiere CS6 Exporter (mixed 2K and 4K footage to QT HD) - 45% Adobe Media Encoder (from folder to folder, not through Premiere Pro) - 40% Also noticeable improvement in scrubbing and preview in RED 2K and 4K sequences and multitasking. None of the components is overclocked, as a main workstation stability is more important than additional performance improvement, but even at the factory settings the difference in performance is really noticeable.

Cons: none so far

Overall Review: Runs pretty hot. Water cooling is strongly suggested. NewEgg doesn't honor it's own promotions

Hitachi GST Deskstar H3IK20003272SP (0S02861) 2TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Retail

Pros: i stumbled a pretty good deal for this HDD, it had additional $20 off, which makes a difference when you buy multiple HDDs.

Cons: but NewEgg didn't honor it **this review is NOT for the HDD i never got but for NewEgg service and commitment to their own promotions**

Overall Review: On 05.09.12 i placed an order, my PayPal was charged, i received an email that my purchase will get is being packed. That was the last day of this promotion. On 05.10.12 i got an email that there was a shipping error, followed by email that RMA was received, followed by email that full refund is placed on my account. All of this within 2 hours. I checked my shipping address in "my account" section, it was correct and identical to my billing address. I contacted customer service who insisted that it was FedEx that is at fault and kept giving me FedEx contact info. After i asked her/him to copy/paste my address into a chat window, s/he had to agree with me that FedEx could not be blamed. Then s/he told me my order was not mailed because my phone# on my acc has DASHES in shipping section and DOTS in billing. To be fair, s/he offered to credit me the difference after i place new order, i just have to email him/her after denying it for an hour.

3rd monitor

j5create USB 3.0 to HDMI/DVI Display Adapter
j5create USB 3.0 to HDMI/DVI Display Adapter

Pros: I got this adapter to be able to use 3 monitors simultaneously - my graphics card only supports 2. I have 2 24" monitors that are connected to the card and Wacom Cintiq 12WX, connected via this adapter. For this adapter, I use USB3 port on my computer, and haven't noticed any lag, even when working on large Photoshop or Illustrator files. At first, i could only see 2 monitors when i hooked the adapter up - customer support at j5create was very friendly and they got back to me almost immediately, but they could not figure out what the problem was either. The problem was that i didn't change DisplayFusion settings to extend to the third monitor. (off-topic: DisplayFusion is a great piece of software that allows to have a taskbar on each screen and spans wallpaper across all connected monitors.) Once i figured out what the problem was, everything worked fine. Yay!

Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - Great storage size for the price, bought it on Newegg shellshock sale - Seagate has excellent customer support - Any HDD manufacturer will have some percentage of problematic drives, but i believe Seagate has the lowest. At least from my experience.

Cons: RAID1 with 3Tb drives is rather finicky on the same system where mirroring 2Tb drives works fine.

Overall Review: Seagate offers SeaTools for Windows - very useful and easy to use tool to determine health of the hard drive. Systematic hard drive check will help to minimize frustration with lost data when a hard drive will finally die, because they all do, eventually. From what i read, not recommended as a boot drive, might cause problems. But it's also 2013 and i don't really see why would anyone would want to use anything else but SSD for a boot drive. --------------- System specs: i7-3930K CPU 32 (4x8Gb) GSkill RAM Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU AsRock Extreme6 MoBo Thermaltake Water 2.0 cooler OCZ ZX 1000W Modular PSU Samsung 250Gb SSD for OS and apps 10Tb (2x2Tb and 2x3Tb) Seagate HDD storage Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1

G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9Q-32GSR

Pros: Works really well with LGA 2011 AsRock Extreme6 MoBo. No issues whatsoever.

Cons: The packaging is kind of terrible. 4 sticks of RAM in a thin plastic case with no protection of any kind from outside impact due to shipping or storage damages. I wish heatsinks were larger, but i guess it's designed for an add-on RAM fans

Overall Review: This particular RAM is not officially supported by AsRock, at least it's not listed on the website, but works fine anyway. Paired with i7-3039K CPU and Nvidia Quadro 4000, it's fastest workstation i ever owned :)
