Most Favorable Review

It works as advertised

MSI PRO B450M PRO-VDH MAX AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
MSI PRO B450M PRO-VDH MAX AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: - Works with a Ryzen 5 3400G out of the box with no firmware update.

Cons: - Documentation is sparse. I had to go to manufacture's website to find manual so that I could make front panel connections on the correct pins. (HDD LED, Power LED, reset switch, on/off switch.) There was no map of pin locations included in the box.

Overall Review: This was my first build, and it went ok. The computer works, and performs about as well as I was expecting based on the components I chose. I didn't put this in a "con" because I'll chalk it up to inexperience, but I didn't get all of the metal prongs on the I/O shield positioned correctly. Some of them ended up on the outside after the MB was installed. I just bent them out of the way from the outside, rather than take apart the computer again to get it right.

Great processor. Good graphics

AMD Ryzen 5 2nd Gen with Radeon Graphics - RYZEN 5 3400G Picasso (Zen+) 4-Core 3.7 GHz (4.2 GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 65W YD3400C5FHBOX Desktop Processor

Pros: - Good speed. - Good graphics for a build without a dedicated graphics card.

Cons: - Sparse documentation. It would have been nice if the installation instructions had included the fact that the thermal paste is already applied.

Overall Review: This was part of my first build. Previous computers had been pre-assembled systems. I was able to get what I liked, and since I knew that I probably wasn't ever going to get a stand-alone graphics card, it was nice to get a chip that included a decent graphics processor. But the computer runs fine, and is performing in-line with my expectations when I chose the components I did.

Great SSD

Overall Review: I haven't run any benchmark tests or anything, so I can't give a formal "how fast is it" number, but as my last computer was still running a spinning disk, I can really tell the difference. Windows 10 boots to the login screen in about 20 seconds, and that includes the MB POST. Good price too for a 1TB SSD. Though I will say I wasn't expecting it to be quite as small as it is. That's not a + or -, it's just a component I hadn't used prior to this build.

It works.

G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-32GVR

Overall Review: - It's memory. My expectation was that it would work, and it does. Prices seem to be pretty uniform once you choose the size (2x16 in my case) and the type (DDR4 3200).
