Cons: useless without the 2A wall charger.
Overall Review: Used a 1A wall charger from a different device and it works.
Too bad the title description is a lie as it does NOT come with a 2A wall adapter.
Pros: burns CD's and DVD's.
Cons: a very noisy drive when in use with CD's or DVDs. burning or reading. doesn't matter. it will be noisy.
Also the nero software that comes with it is a trial. didn't even install it. not planning to purchase nero at full price for this.
Overall Review: I got this for $15, so for the price it's not too bad but I was expecting it to be a little bit quieter. it sounds like a 1990's CD-ROM drive.
Pros: I originally bought 2 kits back around: 7/2012 and been running them ever since. My system runs non stop 24x7 with gaming and other tasks during the day and virtual machines at the same time. Fully taxed. System is still running rock stable with this memory almost 2 years later. I can definitely say that these are extremely reliable memory DIMMs.
Cons: None whatsoever.
Overall Review: As stated in the Pros section: Extremely reliable memory.
Pros: Simply the best media I have used so far.
Cons: None that I can think of.
Overall Review: Have tried almost all brands starting with LTO2 tapes, then moved on and upgraded to LTO3 tapes and been using LTO4 tapes for over a year.
Have used mostly TDK tapes for the longest time until they started going out. then decided to try Imation ,Maxwell and IBM media. They all had small issues and did not seem as reliable as Sony media.
Usually Sony is slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Pros: very sharp. great for slicing and dicing veggies
Cons: Very limiting knife. can only be used on veggies, soft cheeses and boneless meat.
Anything else and it will chip and then you end up with ceramic bits and pieces in your food and if you manage to chew on one, wow, very painful and not pleasant at all.
Overall Review: If you plan to cut fruits and veggies with these knives, go for it. the peeler works great.
I would not use the knife on carrots though. too tough.
Pros: Capless design. I like this because I tend to lose the caps of any other USB flash Drives. With this one I do not have to worry about that. Only thing to worry about is getting pocket lint in the USB connector.
USB 3 transfer speeds are pretty good averaging about 75 MB/s write and about 90 MB/s read speeds. This was calculated using the Windows 8 built in copy dialog box.
This was also reading and writing to a SATA III SSD Drive. I have not tested this with a standard hard drive.
USB 2.0 copy speeds are not bad either averaging at about 23 MB/s write and 30 MB/s read. Actually a whole lot faster than most first gen sandisk cruzers.
Cons: Only con I can think of is the USB stick is pretty thick. If you got a laptop that has 2 USB ports one on top of each-other, then that would make the second one inaccessible. Same would be if the 2 USB ports are close together sideways, it is slightly wider than most USB flash Drives.
Not enough to deduct an egg though.
Overall Review: Overall is a nice drive. Can't go wrong with 5 year warranty. Hope I don't need to use it.
If you need a fast USB 3.0 flash drive that is 64GB and is capless, then this is good. If you worry about the fact that your USB ports are sitting close together, then look elsewhere as this will block one of those ports.
Preformatted to FAT32. I had to reformat it to NTFS since I have ISO and MKV files larger than 4GB.
Pros: First of all this is not a bad little portable drive.
To begin my review, first of all some real world copy speeds so you can compare with what others achieved with the same drive.
Test machine was my primary laptop which is a ASUS G74SX Laptop and it has a USB 3 port and an internal SATA 3, 480GB SSD drive.
Copying a 3.5 GB ISO file from SATA 3 SSD drive to the external USB 3 drive
Max copy speed 101 MB/sec while lowestcopy speed was 70 MB/sec so an average of about 85 MB/sec.
It started slow and picked up speed until it got to 100 MB/sec and might have went higher but the file copy finished.
Reading from the external USB 3 drive to the internal SSD SATA 3 drive in my PC (same file, back to another folder)
Started at 48 MB/sec and finished at 60 MB/sec. You would think that reading would be faster than writing but this does not seem to be the case.
Next I took a folder of about 500 MB of MP3s (91 files ranging from 3 MB to 6 MB each) and I did not get a chance to see the copy speed. It copied almost instantly.
I was interested in the max achievable speed so I took a 25GB zip file and copied it to the external drive and this time I got a max speed of 89 MB/sec however that only lasted a few seconds. It leveled off at about 70 MB/sec. The whole 25GB file took 6 minutes and 19 seconds to copy.
It seems to do a whole lot better with smaller files.
As far as the drive goes, it's very quiet. You can hear it spin up when it's being plugged in. While it's being in use, it is very quiet. Can barely hear it seek.
As others have stated, the cable is extremely short. Can be a plus to laptop users but not so much for for desktop users.
For anyone curious, the cable is 18 inches long.
Cons: Cannot think of any, Besides the cable being extremely short. As others have stated and as I as well, the cable being short can be a Pro for some users but a con for others.
Overall Review: The drive can also be used with a standard Micro USB cable (the kind used for most cellphones to be charged nowadays) However that will make copy speeds very slow as that would be over USB 2 only, even if plugged into a USB 3 slot. I tried to copy the same 25GB file and it was copying at a top speed of 8MB/sec. So obviously, this drive is top notch when used properly over USB 3.
Inside the enclosure you will find a SAMSUNG Spinpoint M8 HN-M101MBB 1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive. Newegg item# N82E16822152291. Others have found a Seagate st1000lm drive. So it seems that Seagate put these together with any 1TB laptop drives they had on hand.
Overall I would recommend this hard drive.
If newegg does not remove hyperlinks. For anyone needing a 6ft cable for this drive you can get one here: http://www.usbgear.com/USB3-Micro-6FT.html
Pros: Had these for a while running on a server, got 2 of them in a raid 1. thinking of adding one more to do a raid 5, that way I can get 2TB usable space.
Cons: Some people say these drives are noisy. I honestly could not tell as the server is more noisy. The 15k RPM drives that came with the server can be heard, these cannot compared to those.
Overall Review: No errors of any kind, running on a IBM x3650 M2 server with a ServeRaid M5015 controller with 30 day patrol read and 30 day consistency check enabled as well as used heavily by virtual machines I have yet to see any errors on any of these drives.
Pros: it tilts and pans
Cons: very slow to respond, even on local network. drops about 90% of the frames which makes it hard to detect any actual motion. most of the times the alarm is triggered after the subject went past the frame area.
Overall Review: i have other similar ip cams and all are working great. this one not so much. submitted RMA request.
Pros: picked this camera up from a daily deal type website a while back and got it for $50 so I thought to myself, why not. Turned out this camera is awesome. I have it setup indoors and the livingroom/diningroom/kitchen area it monitors are usually very dark during the day when no one is home but the camera does a very good job at keeping the video very well lit. The pan and tilt options are very nice. the motor is quiet and you would only hear it spin if you are right next to it. if the camera is 10+ feet away you would not hear it spin.
I am guessing my camera has a newer firmware (0.37.2.46 and web UI at version 0.8.4.18) and I have the gmail option by using SSTTLS. this is a plus. FTP option is very nice to have.
Cons: The video quality is mediocre. Is somewhat better in very well lit environments but who would leave the lights on just for the camera to shoot video better. I am guessing the camera would work a whole lot better outside on a porch or any outdoor environment (just make sure the camera is protected from weather and sunlight. this is not a water or weatherproof camera)
The web interface is very bland and minimal. If you use IE, you get all options available. Chrome or Firefox would use Push instead of ActiveX and a whole lot of camera options are not available there.
The software that comes with the camera is minimal, you get a few documentation documents on the CD. a scanner program to find the camera on your network and that's about it.
These are the only reasons I knocked off one egg.
Overall Review: While I got this for $50 I like it since it does what it's supposed to do. Motion Detection built in works pretty well but does catch on after a few seconds.
I tested it by setting it for motion detection alarm. walked in front of it. it finally detected I was walking in front of it but almost at the end of the frame, so it only captured a few frames of me being in the view. (this is because I walked side to side) but I was in it's view for a good 5-6 seconds. only caught me for the last 2 seconds or so. I guess it would work better if it was setup to where someone would approach it, then it would pickup the motion and capture the person in the view for a longer time.
Pros: does what it says it does
Cons: gets very hot when it's charging my phone which draws 1 amp. battery pack will deplete in an hour and a bit at that rate.
Overall Review: i guess this is ok for a simple phone that can be charged at 500 mAh or less.
Pros: ordered for $16 when it was on a daily deal. Received it very fast. kudos newegg.
works great. getting about 20 mbps read/write which is very decent.
Cons: none so far
Overall Review: very small and handy.
Pros: awesome drives. i have 4 of these in a n4100pro nas box in a raid 5. they have been running non stop for a year and a half and are still going strong regardless of the fact that they run kind of hot (enclosure fault, not hard drive fault). they run at 41 celsius day and night.
Cons: slow startup time. they take a little over 10 seconds to start up. but in my nas box which is UPS battery protected that does not matter too much.
Overall Review: these drives are also extremely quiet. i love them. i wish samsung would start making 3TB versions of these so i can upgrade the ones in my nas box.
Pros: Works as designed. Very very quiet even when under load. Well built and leads are very long which is awesome for good cable management in newer cases.
Cons: Only con is that it did not come with a power cord. Luckily I had some so it was not an issue but if you are building a new system with one of these prepare to buy a power cord. Not cool Antec!
Overall Review: Overall good power supply. 12v running at 12v, 5v running at 4.98 and 3.3v running at 3.29 which is close enough. The only reason I knocked off an egg was because of the no power cord issue.
Like I said, for me this was not an issue but for someone building a new box with one of these would have to spend extra to get a power cord.
Pros: um... not sure of Pros... makes some light. it's motion sensitive. That's about all I can add to the Pros cathegory.
Cons: Cheaply and poorly constructed. The weight of the unit makes it almost impossible to mount it on a wall. You have to tighten the screw so much until the platic starts to crack. Resolved that by drilling a small hole when I had the unit at the appropriate angle so I was able to insert a short nail. This allows it to stay in place at a specific angle.
The light output is poor as well. It makes a very narrow spot of light but from LEDs it's ok I guess.
There is no adjustable timer on the unit. It turns on when detecting motion and turns off a minute after. After it turns off you have to "dance" around it to get it to detect you again if you want another minute of light, otherwise the unit will only detect you again just as you walk past it and don't need the light anymore.
Overall Review: I got this when it was on sale for $19. never again. not even for $10. Feels cheap and poor design.
Would I recommend this? Most likely not.
Pros: works great. got it for an awesome price a month ago. fast enogh for a class 4.
Pros: An astonishing case. The power supply is adequate for what I need it for, built a small PC for my wife with it. Used a Core 2 Duo E6550 CPU, a mATX motherboard, something that came for free with the CPU from a local retailer, MSI something. added a ATI 5450 video card because the on-board one was horrible and scored a 2.9 on the windows 7 WEI score. added a 64GB SSD drive for windows and apps (using a iSCSI centralized raid storage for actual data storage as it is safe against hard drive failures). install was a breeze. did not add a optical drive as we have no need for one. installed windows 7 via a USB key by using wintoflash to load it on there.
see cons below.
Cons: just as all other people noted, the side fan is horribly noisy. replaced it with an enermax quiet fan. no more noise. not enough to drop an egg though. installing a 2.5 inch SSD drive was not as easy because i had to use a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter, which did not have bottom mounting holes to mount it in the 3.5 tray that you would normally install a floppy drive into. installed it on the bottom of the case and it only matched 2 of the 3 holes so since it's an SSD and not sitting in anything else other than a desktop computer no worries. no vibration comes from it so it's OK.
Overall Review: overall took me about an hour to install everything in the box. mainly because i had to switch the fan. i spent extra time routing the cables nicely out of the way.
now it's complete. been running beautifully on the power supply and its almost noiseless. the most noise comes from the stock LGA 775 CPU fan but 3 feet away can barely be heard.
highly recommended if you are planning to build something like i did or build a small media center HTPC. make sure you replace that fan with a Zalman or enermax fan and everything will be fine.
i must have gotten a second revision case since all the people said that there is only one SATA connector. mine came with 2 SATA, 2 molex and one floppy as well as the 24 pin ATX and the 4 pin 12v power. i only needed one SATA connector anyway.
have fun with this case. i know i did.
Pros: Awesome memory
Cons: ordered 2 and newegg packed them in a bubble wrap envelope which got opened up in transit and only one DIMM arrived. opened claim, still under dispute.
my only reason for knocking off an egg.
Overall Review: good memory. yill buy one more for another laptop. works great and it's cheap. got them on sale at $21.99 a piece.
Pros: good, cheap memory. works well. been in a laptop that has been running non stop for the past year. no issues yet
Overall Review: mised the newegg shell shocker deal for $30 & free shipping. Was gonna buy some more for another laptop.
Pros: Ended up having several of these over the past 2-3 years. first one failed after a few months of seldom use. sent it in to corsair for replacement. they sent me another one. worked ok for about a year. then failed. sent me another one which failed again after about 6 months, now i am on the last one they sent me as replacement. will see how long this one lasts.
Cons: non reliable. main issue is that they usually fail without notice. on the first one i lost all my data. after i got the replacement i kept a backup at all times. and i still do.
Overall Review: highly unreliable.
Pros: I've purchased 3 of these CPUs to use in 3 different servers running VMWare. They are awesome CPUs. very low heat output and the stock cooler that comes with these is super quiet (with cool'n'quiet enabled).
Cons: none whatsoever
Overall Review: very stable CPUs. have 3 running in 3 different budget servers and they are very stable and have been running non stop for about a year. each vmware server hosts about 20 different virtual machines all running different versions of windows and other operating systems.
Pros: it's ok. the 2 levels of white light are not as bright as i thought they would be.
Cons: cheap flimsy construction. if you shake the unit it would turn on whenever it wants. had it in my glove box and i found it turned on on some position multiple times. even if you shake it in your hand it turns on sometimes. this without pushing the power button.
Overall Review: would had cost too much to ship it back to get a partial refund. but i wouldn't buy another one.
Pros: This thing is HUGE! don't get me wrong. I love it. the display is very nice and crisp. And it's also very very quiet. More than I expected.
I got this from a local shop for $700 less without the backpack and mouse but same exact specs.
I moved the hard drive to the second bay and installed an SSD in the primary bay. 7.8 windows score on the SSD drive.
Cons: It's extremely heavy. But I knew that when I bought it.
The keyboard is not so bad if you disable the touchpad. I got used to it.
Overall Review: awesome laptop. this thing is built solid. a true desktop replacement.
Pros: Absolutely quiet. No noise whatsoever. Even if you put your ear on it you can barely tell the fans are running. For this fact I would give it 10 stars out of 5... but see below under cons...
Cons: got 2 of these while they were running as a special here on newegg for $20 a piece. One of them was horrible as far as its voltages are concerned. I was watching the 5v line and it was going between 3 and 6 volts. When system was running it would drop to about 3v. as soon as a game or anything heavy was launched on the system the machine would bluescreen and reset. have then tried another power supply with stable 5v line and haven't had a problem since then. even tried a 275watt power supply in its place and the system worked better with it. so it must be a dud.
the other power supply i got (since i bought 2) has been working fine thus the 3 star rating.
Overall Review: very havy power supply. probably weighs 10 lbs by itself. very quiet. if the actual power supply portion would be better then it would be a good product... i may use the casing for another power supply since the fans are very quiet.
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Band way too small. and it is already extended to the last available hole for max length. you would need to get the band replaced by a longer one or get additional sections for it from the manufacturer.
Overall Review: for now i have the watch in an automatic watch winder which spins the watch for 10 minutes, stops for 30 minutes and continues. i have noticed that the watch advanced about 1 minute in a month. so it is not perfect. every month you would need to adjust the watch back 1 minute. not as bad as another one that was going 10 minutes fast every 24 hours.
