Good Performance, Horrible Fan 11/21/2012 1:18:59 AM

Pros: Got it for a good discount last Black Friday (2011). The performance is everything I expected it to be. Helps me play Skyrim on mostly High settings (except things like shadows) on my old Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33GHz.

Cons: The fan on this card is the loudest thing I've ever heard inside of a computer before. When it is put under load, it sounds like a jet engine is about to burst through your computer. It's a HUGE 'con' for this card and it made me take off an egg.

The card is enormous. I made sure to measure my case before getting the card to make sure it fit, and it does, but BARELY. Make sure you have a large case if you want to use this.

ATI's Catalyst Control Center is awful, awful software. It's buggy, inconsistent, and crashes without warning. Crashes only happen once in a while, but when it happens, it seems like I wasn't doing anything that should have given it a problem (like watching a stream on Twitch TV). This is the reason I knocked off another egg.

Overall Review: It's a good budget performance card that still makes me wish I had more money to spend so I could have gotten something better, quieter, and something *not* ATI so I could avoid CCC.

OLDIE 10/7/2012 5:42:46 PM

Pros: This is a good price ...But this is a D10 very powerfull card for it's age.I have had the 4890 for 3 years running it's on wright now.I love this card but it is power hungry.

Cons: I would not buy this because of the D11 thats out now and the age. This car is only 800 st. On an older computer this would be O.K.It eats a lot of Elect. and has 2, 6 pins i think a newer card with more than 800 sts. would be a smarter choice.

Overall Review: This card was to beat the 9800GT+Then the 216 took over that's how old this is. Only beats the GT by a few frames because of the 800 sts.A 4850 has 800sts. also but this has a vey high O.C. on the card the only real difference between the 2 cards.

Amazing deal on a past flagship 1/8/2012 3:29:50 PM

Pros: Great card for the price, got it on sale for $30+ less than any other current generation 800 stream processor card (6770 or 5770). Works great, runs MW3 at med-high settings at 1280x1024, around high 50's average. Counter Strike Source runs maxed at 1280x1024 w/8xAA hitting the 300fps cap on many user built maps, and gets 150-200fps on office/dust/dust2.

Phenom2 X3 720 @ 3.0ghz
2 x 2GB DDR2 800 XMS2
HD4890 @ stock
WD 500GB 7200rpm
700watt Rosewill PSU

Cons: Extremely loud fan, not enough to take an egg away. I messed with Catalyst to push the fan to 100% and I have never heard a louder fan, sounds like a shop vac. In fact anything over 80% is too loud.

Overall Review: Used a popular graphics card tweaking tool to make my own fan mapping. Around 30-40c (which is idle temps for this card) it sits at 30% fan. From there the max I set it to is 70% at anything over 70c, though the highest temps I saw running Furmark was around 68-70c.

Does have higher power requirements since this is a past flagship card, two PCI-E are needed.

Excellent bang for the buck! 1/3/2012 12:41:58 PM

Pros: Performance-to-Price ratio is outstanding. No other card at this price point will match the performance.

I took the money I saved on this card and invested in an AC Accelero Twin Turbo and solved the fan noise problems with high temps. Works perfectly and doesn't even hit 25db or 55deg while gaming. I have an excellent card and cooling for less than $100 and couldn't even approach that type of performance/cooling for under $150 with DX11 cards.

Cons: Noise was not an issue for my card with factory cooler, but temps were high as with any 48xx Radeon card. I planned for the problem and bought the aftermarket cooler at the same time as the card.

Overall Review: Can't believe the negative reviews of a bargain basement card for price. There is no doubt the stock cooler is junk and the temps will be higher than you want for gaming. It is called "research" and it pays to do your homework before buying. Crossfire setup for less than $200 with aftermarket cooling is crazy good. Buy this card!!

Great bang for the buck 1/3/2012 10:02:10 AM

Pros: - Great performance, even in late 2011/early 2012, if running in Crossfire.
- Affordable option if you can get the right deal.
- If you're only running 1680x1050 or 1920x1080, it should be able to run the games you want it to without much hassle.

Cons: - Fans are garbage. Was there any QC on these?
- A little long in the tooth for technology.
- No accessories included.

Overall Review: Got two of these on an open box buy (both showed up factory sealed though, so that works) and, as expected, the fans are garbage. One is visibly out of round and grinds against the plastic case. The other fan works fine but you can tell the bearings aren't super smooth in it as well. I anticipated this and my Arctic Cooling S1 Rev2's are showing up today with some Scythe fans to help cool the cards better and quiet things down. Even with the stock cooler though, FurMark topped out at 80C for a single card. Other things to consider: nothing but the card is included. No Crossfire bridge, no HDMI adapter included (HIS sells one of the special ATI ones to output sound through DVI), and no driver/software cd. Overall, a whole lot of bang for the buck if you are prepared to deal with the shortcomings. If I didn't get them so cheap though, I would have likely waited for the 79xx cards to come out and bought a 7970 or 6970 at a discount.

Awesome card 12/27/2011 8:21:47 AM

Pros: fast

Cons: loud

Overall Review: I am running crossfire with these cards, and during black Friday deals I got both for $140. They preform awesome. I can run Crysis 2 on ultra settings and not skip a beat. They are kind of loud. One of the cards grinds more than the other, so I took it apart and greased the bearing. Now it sounds a lot better

Garbage Card, Do Not Buy 12/14/2011 5:56:02 PM

Pros: Good GPU

Cons: Where should we start:
The fan is horrible! Apparently the bearings were bad in mine which most likely contributed to the noise. I looked around and that it can me a common issue with the blower on this fan.
It runs fairly hot for the graphics card.

Overall Review: Some members has attributed the fan to poor control center settings or user incompetence. Bull****. From a mechanical standpoint, the card is simply poor quality. To be honest, I messed with the settings for hours and could not remove the rattling and grinding noise. I feel for members new to computer building, because products should be able to work without with a PHD in advanced computer wizardry.
