Powered by next-generation NVIDIA Maxwell architecture, the EVGA GeForce GTX 980/970 delivers incredible performance, unmatched power efficiency, and cutting-edge features like NVIDIA Super Resolution Technology. With up to twice the performance of prior-generation cards and breakthrough graphics technologies, the EVGA GeForce GTX 980/970 provides an elite gaming experience on virtual reality, HD, and ultra-resolution 4K displays.
With optimized Swept fan blades, double ball bearings and an extreme low power motor, EVGA ACX 2.0 delivers more air flow with less power, unlocking additional power for the GPU.
Pros: This card rocks! I have an overclocked i7-4770K with the EVGA GTX780 ti Dual Classified running stock speeds and this stock i7-4790K with the 980 beats it by a clear margin. As advertised, I believe the temperature does run lower than previous GPUs. I did not do any tests to verify my belief, but I do believe the fans on my GTX780 ti have to work a lot hard compared to this 980 card. tl;dr This card at stock on a stock i7-4790K beats my 780 ti on an overclocked i7-4770K.
Cons: I debated on breaking an egg on this issue, but I decided it was noteworthy. The adhesive of protected plastic around the card is pressed on the label of the card. When I pulled off the plastic it broke the label in half. Luckily I was able to put the label back on well enough so that it isn’t too obvious that it is damaged. I can still see it if I look at the label. I don’t have the internals on display and it doesn’t affect its performance, but it does affect its resale value. I had to RMA the first one I received. I didn’t realize the cause until the second card, but the label broke, I’m assuming, the same way I described above. A huge section was missing. More importantly, the PCB was slightly chipped and about 3 radiator fins were bent. Considering the packaging wasn’t damaged and designed well, I’m assuming someone had an oops somewhere during manufacturer and packaging. With the exception of the label snapping again, the second card was in good condition. tl;dr Be carefully pulling the protective plastic off.
Overall Review: Newegg handled the RMA without issue. Thanks!
