IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before the original SSD is removed, the host MAC must be updated to macOS 10.13 High Sierra (or 10.14 Mojave or 10.15 Catalina).
Why should I update the OS version on my original SSD before I remove it?
The macOS 10.13 High Sierra, 10.14 Mojave, 10.15 Catalina versions include an EFI firmware update on the motherboard to detect PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSDs. The EFI firmware from macOS 10.12 S. ierra, Mac OS X or older versions can only work with original PCIe 2.0 AHCI SSDs. The firmware version changes with system updates and stays on the motherboard even when the SSD is removed.
