Features

Removable Heat Spreader Fin

The G.SKILL TridentX series features a removable heat spreader fin to improve your cooling options. With the heat spreader fin, the increased surface area keeps the memory cooler. Alternatively, with a system that already has a sufficient cooling solution, the fins can be removed to accommodate massive CPU coolers or other customized cooling solutions.

If you follow my posts on the forums, you'll find that I consider myself one of Corsair's biggest fans, but those feelings were thrown completely out of whack when I received this kit from G.Skill. The G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to completely amaze me with its quality and clocking ability, and I fell in love after checking its price. You cannot find a 4 x 4GB 2666MHz kit for less right now unless it's been put on sale. This kit manages to overcome any performance deficiencies with flexibility and great overhead. At stock, I managed to beat out my trusty Corsair Dominator Platinum kit with a little bit of tweaking. Overclocked, the G.Skill F3-2666C11Q-16GTXD kit managed to go just as high without a boost in voltage. That is just outright fantastic.

G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit put on an impressive display of performance, easily overcoming the competition in all but four of the benchmarks used. Unfortunately, the memory was bottlenecked by the processor -- limiting the overclock to a 104 bclk and leaving us with a final overclock of 2218MHz and timings of 10-12-12-31 2T. Paired with a 3rd generation Intel processor, G. Skill's 2400 MHz Trident X kit would have benefited greatly from the increased bandwidth and has the potential to hit 2500MHz with some fine tuning.

G.Skill's Trident X line-up comes with kits that range from the 2400MHz kit we are looking at to a 2800MHz kit for massive memory speeds and the associated bandwidth that is a hallmark of higher speed bins. It seems that G.Skill is most definitely targeting the budget overclocker with this set of Trident X modules. A $99 price tag for 2400MHz-rated modules is a welcome sight after seeing huge price tags just a few months back for cas8 and 9 modules binned above 2133MHz. The Trident X are modules that perform well and deliver some overhead for a little bit more tweaking and come with G.Skill's lifetime warranty. Excellent looks aside, the Trident X would make a good addition to any system and have the flexibility to be cooled in multiple ways.

Great Ram to Max Out an Older System

Pros: Works as advertised. Took my older X79 4960X system to its full potential

Cons: I can see why a lot of people think they had "bad" sticks. These can be annoying, aggravating, finicky little suckers to get working properly. I installed them one at a time, and tested the system each time for proper function. The first three went as you're supposed to expect, but for unknown reasons the fourth was an uncooperative prima donna. It took at least a dozen remove and reinsert into the slot cycles before it finally "woke up". Once it did, it worked fine. I have no idea what the issue was, and that was all I tried to get it working. Been working fine ever since.

Overall Review: If you have the skill and patience to massage these into cooperation, this is great ram.
Yes, I would reccomend these to others.

Cons: None really it came well made.

Overall Review: Didn't come with a memory cooling fan just little fyi in case anyone thinks it does for some reason.

Russian Roulette - you've been warned!

Pros: -Nice Packaging

Cons: -1 bad stick out of 4 (Bought a 32GB kit......I think? :P )
-The mobo only sees 24GB as a result
-Won't run at 2400mhz due to the bad stick

Overall Review: If you like playing Russian Roulette, this is the ram for you!
I should've heeded all the negative reviews. In my 15 years of building PCs, this is the 1st bad batch of ram i've had. I guess there's always a first time for everything. Thanks G.SKILL.

Dear Customer

We will be glad to help with this issue. To determine whether a module is defective, test one stick at a time to see if one performs differently than others. Each module should be able to pass with XMP enabled, considering you have a certified motherboard and capable CPU. There are many possible causes for missing capacity, so it is not necessarily assumed a module is defective. Once the proper troubleshooting steps are taken to identify the source of problem, a solution can be provided to target and resolve the issue. If a module is indeed defective, we can replace it right away and send you a new kit. For any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us directly.

Thank you

Nice Memory, looks pretty on the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z

Pros: Nice looking memory, no memory errors (on Memtest+ v5), and seems to run stable..no real issues so far.
Looks pretty on the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z

Cons: Have minor issues getting it to run at 2400 speed on the Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z with advertised G.SKILL stock timings, and 1.65v.

At 2400 speed it would only show 24gb in BIOS, and also in Memtest. I had to bump it down to 2133 in order for it to show all 32GB installed. The strange thing is it still showed all 4 sticks installed but again was only registering 24GB of total memory.

Not sure why this is, not sure if it has to do with the processor? I currently I have a AMD FX 8150 installed. (Plan to buy a newer AMD FX model shortly)

At any rate, I ran Prime95 and tested the memory at the 2133 speed and it appears to be stable on Win10PRO,

Hi Steve

Thank you for your G.Skill purchase and review. Glad to hear you like the design of the Trident X series RAM. This is the top of the line DDR3 RAM on the market. Especially in the black and red colors, it is a perfect fit for the ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard.

Since there is no AMD CPU that can natively support DDR3-2400, additional tweaking is necessary to stabilize the processor for DDR3-2400. For your particular issue, try manually setting the CPU-NB Voltage to around 1.25V or 1.30V and that should stabilize the memory controller. If you like, you can test and determine the lowest stable value for the system at DDR3-2400. Once you find the sufficient value, the system will be fast and smooth at full speed. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.

Thank you

stay away from these

Pros: none

Cons: First set i ordered had a bad stick fount it by running installing each one individually. the first set I had no problem overclocking the 3 good sticks to the manufacturers guaranteed speeds. I received the RMA replacements on 10/9/2015 and now these sticks are failing the mem86 test with XMP.

Overall Review: Fist time buying G.Skill and have to admit not impressed at all should have stuck with my usual buy corsair.
