Question 1

What is the maximum capacity of this RAM kit?

Accepted Answer

If you system supports it, 256GB, just as it says, but be careful - you'll need to have the pro version of Windows to prevent it from capping you at 128GB - and you'll need to make sure you have a compatible motherboard with a BIOS update that changes the max from 192GB to 256GB.

Question 2

Is this RAM kit suitable for gaming and video editing tasks?

Accepted Answer

Don't buy this if your main use case is gaming. Most gamers don't need more than 32-64GB. If you're doing professional video editing (4K/8K especially with RAW footage and/or complex multi-layered compositions) then the capacity may come in handy, but it's really not necessary for more casual editing.

Question 3

Why DDR5 RAM is so expensive now?

Accepted Answer

DDR5 Memory is pricey due to the surging demand from AI server farms and data centers, which has caused a global memory shortage. This has led memory manufacturers to prioritize more profitable server-grade memory like HBM (high-Bandwidth Memory) over consumer-grade DDR5, drastically reducing supply for consumers while simultaneously causing the prices for both DDR5 and DDR4 to increase.

Question 4

Will this memory kit work without overclocking the CPU?

Accepted Answer

Memory kits will boot at the SPD speed at default BIOS settings with compatible hardware.

Question 5

Can this memory kit work with a 9950x3d + MSI X870e Carbon build?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this memory kit is compatible with AMD Ryzen processors, including the 9950x3d, and is designed for use with AMD X670 and X870 motherboards.

Question 6

Can I achieve 256GB at 6000 with this memory kit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this memory kit has a capacity of 256GB and operates at a speed of DDR5 6000.

Question 7

Could using a large capacity RAM kit like this one enhance my productivity?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but only if your workloads actually require or benefit from that much memory. If you do professional video editing/3D rendering, scientific computing/simulations, large-scale ML/AI, virtualization/running multiple VMs, big data/in-memory databases... then yes! But most people are doing things like web browsing, email, office apps, light photo/video editing, software dev with smaller datasets, gaming, etc. For most people this is gross overkill. I bought it primarily to be able to train and run larger AI models.
