Intel’s next-gen Panther Lake chips are on the horizon, built on the new 18A (≈1.8 nm) process and featuring improved Xe3 graphics, faster AI performance, and much better efficiency than Lunar Lake. They’re expected to start rolling out in late 2025, first for laptops and later for desktops.
If the early leaks are true, we could be seeing up to 16 cores and a 50% graphics boost, making them serious contenders for portable gaming and productivity.

Portable gaming is like the next big focus. If only their costs would go down, I think it would go really big. I think that’s why the Switch did so well and the Steam Deck did well on release
We’ve heard of Panther Lake… being a mobile chip, it has interesting potential. With increasing DDR5 speeds, the gap between mobile integrated graphics and basic mobile dedicated graphics continues to shrink. However, all of these chips would be greatly outperformed by even a basic gaming desktop. We also have our doubts that this will catch up to AMD’s Ryzen™ AI Max+ 395 in iGPU performance.
We’re also deeply intrigued by the claimed efficiency improvements, as Qualcomm has been shaking the mobile market to its core with the new Snapdragon Elite chips. ARM64 may not have a large presence just yet in the mobile market, but its efficiency cannot be understated and it’s super impressive in its own right. Curious how much mobile market share Intel will retain over the next several years, and how much it will lose. Only time will tell.
