So I currently have a GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, and I’m wanting to upgrade to get better performance overall. I’m not huge on wanting to look great while play great, I like frames more than I like resolution, but I want my games to look at least good while playing. I’ve been thinking about going to a 5060 but am unsure which to go to. Should I look into a higher 30 series or jump immediately to the 50 series? I haven’t heard much good from the 40 series so I am more inclined to stay away from that. Please help me!
Hey man! Love to see you here, welcome to the Gamer Community!
What games do you like playing and what monitor do you have? What are the frame rates you’re hoping to hit? It’ll depend on a lot of those answers as well but I think you’ll probably want a RTX 5060 16Gb or a RX9060XT 16Gb. I’d probably aim for the 9060XT personally, but get one that you like. I wouldn’t go for an updated aging card, but if you’re looking to play older games more than newer games, that would be a good answer.
I typically play R6 Siege, GTA, RDR2, Indiana Jones. Those are the more straining games for frames. I just want something that can consistently hit 60 FPS on the ladder 3. Siege I typically hit around 100-120, but GTA hits 60 and drops down to 40 sometimes, RDR2 typically caps out around 50-55 and drops close to 30 frequently. I recently got that to 60+ but I had to turn down the graphics quite a bit. Posted the same thing to Reddit and got recommended the 5060ti 16GB or the RX 9060XT as well.
As someone who actually had a 3060 for my previous GPU, I’d say switching over to AMD gives the best dollars per frame when compared to Nvidia. Specifically, I upgraded to an RX 7800 XT which is between the 4070 and 4070 Super. I definitely recommend it as I’ve been playing Monster Hunter Wilds at 1440p at 60 FPS on high settings.
From what I’ve read about the 5000 series, it isn’t much of an upgrade to the 4000 series when it comes to real frames due to the reliance on frame gen. Though, frame gen can be up to personal preference in which I personally prefer not to have it.
from the replies i’m seeing, it looks like you have your answer.
I think your tier 1 gpu’s are
5060ti or 9060xt
tier 2 gpu’s are
5070 or 9070xt
it’s a matter of how much your gpu’s performance matters to u now. u can lookup gpu performances by games on youtube for performance metrics now, that should give u the next direction to go.
Depends on your budget and specs, I’d personally recommend buying a used rtx 3080 on ebay ~$400, it performs better and cheaper than a 5060 ti, and the newer nvidia and amd cards are usually above msrp which makes it not worth it me thinks
I had a msi ventus 3060 12gb and used the trade in option. Newegg gave me 200 bucks to use towards a 5060 ti 12gb. I am very happy with the purchase.
Also keep in mind 50 series & 90 series are PCIE 5.0 cards they are backwards compatible you may loose some performance running at 4.0 5060 & 5060 TI runs at 5.0 x8 so it should be close to 4.0 x16 but the 9070 & XT run at 5.0 x16 so should the 9060
