World-First PCIe 4.0 x4 Controller

This world-first PCIe 4.0 x4 Phison PS5016-E16 controller is made by 28nm manufacturing technology. The advanced fabrication process ensures PS5016-E16 has enough compute power for ECC processing when adopting the latest 3D TLC NAND flash. Efficient Copper Heat-Spreader Design

Compared with a plated M.2 heat spreader, the new efficient copper heat spreaders with 27 fins add more surface area which improve thermal transfer from heating sources to obtain thermal balance sooner. Moreover, the optimized fin-array design does great heat exchange with any direction of airflow. As fast as advertised - Recommended

Pros: Good looking heat sink, not plastic looking as some have mentioned. Heavy. Top speed attained only via PCIe4, so today that means a Ryzen 3xxx and a motherboard with the X570 chipset. I put the drive in the slot nearest to the cpu (in my case a 3800X) so it is using the PCIe4 bus directly from the cpu. Got ~5K/4K read/write speeds immediately. It has only been running a week so far so will see if it has good life.

Cons: The large copper heat sink was too large for my motherboard (Aorus Xtreme X570) to have used the motherboard's NVMe heat sink, so the drive is exposed. I could have removed the heat sink and used the board's heat sink, but it does not feel warm to the touch and it looks good. It is currently the only drive in the system. I think that if I had to use a second or third, I would have to remove the copper heat sink.

Overall Review: Pleased with the performance. Runs cool. Recommended if your system supports PCIe4 and you have the room.

Super fast, nice heatspreader

Pros: comes with cupper heat spreader
actually reachers advertised speeds,
stays pretty cool (at least in well ventilated case)

Cons: Slightly more expensive than the sabrant drive
It's possible that getting the sabrant and using an aluminum heat spreader that comes with your motherboard will give you effectively the same performance for a little cheaper.

Overall Review: Actually reaches advertised speeds and stays there. It benched Read: 4996MB/s, Write: 4465 MB/s in crystal disk (Seq Q32T1). Did not see temps over 50C while benching.

Fast, but do you really need the speed?

Pros: Incredibly fast, when comparing speeds to regular PCIe 3 NVME, read speeds can be seen up to 40% faster (depending on workload size, etc.).

Cons: I probably would not notice the speed difference in regular day to day usage. Might see them in creator activities (video encoding/decoding, rendering, etc.), but certainly not in most everyday tasks.
Aesthetic is odd, does not match the aesthetic of the flagship gigabyte motherboards right now.

Overall Review: A technical marvel and flagship of new technology boundaries, but not terribly practical based on its expense and limited chipset support. Curious choice of aesthetic. At the time of release, this is one of those products that those who want it will probably get it regardless, and those who either don't know what PCIe 4 NVMEs are, or don't want to make the jump, won't make the jump.

Very fast transfer speeds

Pros: Transfer speeds are great!
Looks kinda cool having its own heat spreader.

Cons: Absolutely no linux support. On the Gigabyte web page it says TRIM is supported, yet fstrim utility does not work with this NVMe, though every other SSD/NVMe does work with fstrim. Talked with Gigabyte and just got the answer "Linux is not supported".
After tracing the NVMe through the kernel there is a "198h status code" that is marked reserved in the latest spec for an NVM command set. It is unknown if Phison will publish what this status code means which means without knowing the code, it is impossible to update fstrim utility.

If you have the Prism heat-sink cooling your CPU, beware that under load the fan blows hot air on the NVMe heat spreader! Monitoring the temperature and putting the CPU on load will bring the NVMe temperature up to 55 Celsius! So you might want to buy a different heat-sink that can blow the hot air in another direction.

Overall Review: Recommended for Windows users.
Linux users beware of not being able to use fstrim. This could cause issues down the road.
Beware of the Prism Heat-sink/Fan blowing hot air right down on your NVMe.

Fast, yes, real fast.

Pros: Top speed performance.

Cons: Does not look like a copper penny.

Overall Review: The copper heat sink looks pink, but works well. It is thick and the board's cover won't fit over it, unless you remove the heat sink. I've not glass, so no one but me will ever see it once the sides are on. I'm fine with it.

Pros: Would buy again, management software recognized firmware update and implemented without issues.

Cons: None

Overall Review: X570 Gigabyte Aurus Ultra 3700X Ryzen.
Using as a boot drive. Works without issue. System seems instantaneous loading programs and OS, very quick. No benchmarks, just direct observation. Runs cool from what I can tell. Considering buying a 2nd one, very happy with this
