Yes, that core is compatible with that motherboard, one thing you should watch though is the LGA number. In this case , they are both 1150, which is good. Say if it was 1151 for the core and the motherboards core slot was 1150, the core would not fit.

Question 2

I am looking at buying this with a case that has USB 3.0 ports on the front, and it says it has (or requires?) a USB "internal header."  Will I be able to connect those USB ports on the front of the case to this MB?

The manual states: F_USB30 (USB 3.0/2.0 Header)
 The header conforms to USB 3.0/2.0 specification and can provide two USB ports. For purchasing the optional 
3.5" front panel that provides two USB 3.0/2.0 ports, please contact the local dealer.

It is a 20 pin header which connects to the front panel USB ports, two of them. The cable connects from the 20 pin header, then splits to the two separate ports on the panel. Cases vary, check case included parts. Thanks

Will dual monitors work without a GPU?

A search for "haswell onboard dual monitor" yielded the following:

"Haswell does give you the ability to run 3 monitors directly off the motherboard however like previous efforts, this requires a lot of adapters to get working along with the right motherboard.

For the time being we will stick with our preferred route of utilising multiple dedicated graphics hardware in our multi-screen computers. It’s easier to setup, performs better and allows for bigger screen arrays to be connected."

What kind of case can I use for this?  I have an ATX case.. but this MOBO won't fit!

I installed this MB in a desktop ATX case with no issues. I also install a similar Gigabyte GA_Z87 MB in a larger AT tower, again no problems. Sometimes you have to move the case mounting screw studs around to fit the new MB.

Has anyone measured how power hungry this motherboard is? Interested in low idle power.

Interesting.  I'm assuming that you have a super efficient power supply since that is the place to start when cutting your overall power usage.  When a system is fully on, older video cards can be real power hogs.

I am using about 52 watts when my system is on, 2.3 watts when it is in standby, and 1.7 watts when it is off (for reference).

I have an i3-4130 CPU, an Asus HD 7790 video card, a Velociraptor WD1500HLFS hard drive, 4 case fans, etc.

Can I disable the middle PCIe slot and run the last 2.0 slot at x16, so that I have the 1st 3.0 slot at x16, middle slot off, and last slot at 2.0 x16? I would like to do this to run SLI with a 1 slot gap in-between cards for better air flow.

No, the board does not allow you to do this. The last slot is an x16 slot but is only electrically capable of x4. The block diagram on page 8 of the v1001 motherboard manual at Gigabyte's website shows this to be the case (and, having tinkered with the BIOS on this board extensively due to some issues getting HP 361T x4 cards to work in it, there is no such option).

Is this board compatible with 2133mhz RAM or just 1333mhz and 1600mhz????

I was replacing an older motherboard that died and I kept my older memory (1600Mhz) but the Gigabyte website lists this board as being able to take up to 3000Mhz memory.

Question 9

Will the Realtek audio chipset output 5.1 surround sound over the optical?

Yes and no.  It will output 5.1 sound from a DVD or Blu-Ray disc but I don't believe that it will synthesize sound for 5.1 from games and such.  That's generally a limitation of most on-board sound chips.
