Received broken. Gigabyte refused to repair.

Pros: None

Cons: Unfortunately I only tested the card a month after I purchased it. The system couldn't boot with the GTX 1080 as primary display. When booting with iGPU, Device Manager and GPU-Z detected the card. GPU-Z showed unknown BIOS and 0 frequency for everything. I thought maybe a BIOS issue. So I tried nvflash a new BIOS and it failed. I thought maybe the BIOS chip was broken. It turned out it was worse than that.

Gigabyte RMA found a ripped off copper pad and a missing SMD capacitor C986. They refused to repair it, even paid repair. I knocked off SMD components before so I know how hard it is. I didn't do it to the card. It came as it is. If Gigabyte RMA couldn't solder a SMD capacitor why do they exist?

When I get my card back, I am going to measure the size of the capacitor. I am going to fix the copper pad. I am going to buy a new capacitor and solder it back. I am going to hope the card works again and sell it second handed. I am going to stay away from Gigabyte because they sold me a broken card and refused to repair.

Horrible Overheating Leads to Useless Card

Pros: Games certainly perform better with this card, most games at max settings
Getting Shadow of War for free at the time was pretty cool

Cons: Incredible overheating products make the pro non existent. Playing a game at max settings led to the card to reach temperatures as high as 200 degree Fahrenheit which would then cause my computer to crash and restart. Forced to play every game at the lowest settings to avoid damage to the card or my system. That alone makes this a useless card, and I'd be better off with anything else.
Worst off, Gigabyte support has been useless to help. Despite the proof I gave them, their 'repair team' has said there are no issues with the card.
I also find it odd that the overheating didn't become an issue until just past my return period.

Overall Review: Absolute recommend the 1080 to people. It's a great card that gives great graphics. I absolutely would NOT recommend buying this card or any card from Gigabyte.
I would love to purchase another card so that I have one that actually work. Obviously not a Gigabyte one though. I have purchased nearly whole computers with Gigabyte parts but will never buy another one again.

No Problems

Pros: GIGABYTE reputation and personal experience with motherboards and laptops
No problems of any kind during build and testing of new PC
Three fans (see comment below)
Single power supply cable, which is convenient and suggestS modest power use
Multiple monitor connections (3 X DP, 1 X HDMI, 1 X DVI) [ 4 max at once]

Cons: Not so far

Overall Review: This is an "as installed" review. If I have subsequent issues, I will update it.

While this is the item I ordered and is on my invoice, I think I received: N82E16814125880 (which has three fans that I think are quieter)

I am using four monitors - 3 X DVI (to HMDI via cable) and one direct HDMI. Only 1080 so not that demanding.

For reference, this is my system BOM and no compatibility or fit issues:

A powerful beast!

Pros: A huge improvement over my 1060 6GB. I'm thankful that I was able to get this at a decent price given the massive GPU shortage due to the mining craze.

Gameplay is smooth, details are crystal clear, pure gaming bliss.

I have not experienced any of the ill effects surrounding extreme temperatures or fan noise that others have remarked on. Perhaps there was a bad batch released and has since been corrected.

Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase.

Cons: Extremely large. Be sure to know the dimensions of your case before buying. I was able to get the card in there with some rearranging but there was a point where I was worried.

Software included on the CD is buggy and threw up some strange error messages which only started after I decided to install the software. After removal, no more problems. Sadly, one recommended workaround is to use MSI software instead.

Not good.

Overall Review: The card itself is great and worth the buy if you can get it directly from NewEgg instead of a third party vendor who is price gouging.

Great, No performance issues !

Pros: -Bought at great price. Use VR, Oculus, with out any issues, max settings on games, Battlefront II, PUBG, others. Some reviews stated fan is loud, I don't think so. Have had it in brand new rig built in September 2017, and has been a great purchase for someone building their first vr pc gaming machine.

Cons: None really, other than: No back plate. The vent doesn't run the length of the slot due to location of connections,; could have been designed to vent heat better.

5/ 5

Pros: I've owned this since after launch and it's been a great card - it runs quiet and overclocks easily. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about, I've had no issues with it at all. Maybe they changed something in the manufacturing process, perhaps the fan - don't know, but as for this original from 2016 I've never had a moments issue.

Cons: Availability of the GTX 1080, amazing that a year and a half after launch these are still hard to find at retail price. Other than that there are no negatives.

Overall Review: Make sure you pickup the Xtreme Gaming utility that Gigabyte has for their GPUs. They have several things out there but make sure you get the right utility as many of their apps (like their ones for motherboards) are hogs, but this one is a simple app that does what it says and doesn't use up resources.

Fan rattles already. Random display signal loss & graphical glitches.

Pros: It was a reasonable price for a 1080.

Cons: The fan has started rattling under any load, I was genuinely surprised by this on a new card.
Even on the desktop I have random graphical artifacts and display loss.
Gets quite hot for a GPU with external exhaust, in a large case, and an environment kept at 68 degrees F.

Overall Review: The fan started rattling just outside of my Newegg return window. It seems sporadic, but it happens about 70% of the time under load. I have some real concerns about the longevity of it.

Another problem is even on the desktop I randomly lose signal and have graphical artifacts pop up (blue streaks). I have tried a few displays and a few cables, all exhibit this effect. I have updated drivers to no effect. It seems to happen predominantly when in VR or other demanding tasks. Perhaps it is related to poor thermal performance?

It runs HOT. Even in an open case, in a room kept at 68 degrees F, the card can and will thermal throttle a fair bit. This may be due to the possibly defective fan, or the small rear vent.

I would not recommend this card right now based on the fact that I am apparently not the only one with a fan that started rattling. There could be a QC issue. The other issues may be a result of the possible defect, or it could be due to the design on the back end of the fan, or who knows what else?
