So Far So Good

GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING OC Video Card, GV-R69XTGAMING OC-16GD
GIGABYTE Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING OC Video Card, GV-R69XTGAMING OC-16GD

Pros: - 1299.99 was the cheapest 6900xt option I've seen since the start of the GPU craze. Delivered 02/24/2022 so GPU prices appear to be dropping. - price point was $300 above 6900XT MSRP. the 1080ti was $1570 vs. $1299 and honestly with two NVENC cards @ home I figured i'd rather buy the 6900XT now and later once nvidia prices drop further I may pickup a 3050 or reasonably priced 3060 and drop that into the additional pcie slot or into a separate streaming computer and still be @ the cost of a 3080TI. - newegg & gigabyte - thanks for being reasonable on this specific card pricing. i've been trolling the website literally daily when I wanted to buy the ASROCK OCF but the lowest it dropped during BF was $1450. had the OCF been @ $1450 vs. this one @ 1300 I may have possibly picked up the OCF with XTXH Navi 21 chip, however, this card was priced at a point where I won't feel like a complete t u r d when I upgrade again in a few years. - food for thought. i was able to snag a 6900XT XFX from BestGuy 11/13/2021 @ $1689+tax and this one was $1299+tax. I returned the one from Best Buy within the 14 day period because i couldn't swallow the $1850+ cost so saving over $400 for waiting a few months was well worth the wait. - i prefer purchasing from gigabyte. i live in southern california at a reasonable distance from gigabyte's rma center in City of Industry. the great thing about being so close is you may simply drive to the center and drop off your warrantied hardware directly in the hands of a gigabyte employee and not have to pay for shipping and insurance on an expensive card. this alone sways me to purchase gigabyte products.

Cons: - i attempted to install the updated firmware FWUpgrade_GV_R69XTGAMING_OC_16GD.zip but nothing happens. maybe a gigabyte rep can help me? - none i've really found so far i'll update once i've owned it for more than 24 hours.

Overall Review: I've only played overwatch with the card but I was playing on a GTX 1080 all low settings 1440p. with the 6900xt and radeon driver installed with SAM / REBAR enabled in bios (x570/3900x/hx1200) overwatch auto changed all settings to 120% resolution @ Ultra settings. I'm using a 27" Dell Gsync monitor with this and last night once installed was an absolutely amazing experience. Much better than the experience with both a gtx1080/gtx1080ti. I unfortunately panic sold a gtx1080ti for $300 like a bonehead and have been waiting for GPU prices to drop. Oh well $1300 on this card was definitely an easier pill to swallow.

Massive upgrade over previous gtx 950 and gtx 960 video cards

PNY GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 Video Card VCGGTX10603PB

Pros: 430w PSU is enough 60fps locked on doom 2016

Cons: none

Overall Review: i purchased a gtx 950 a few months then upgraded to a gtx 960 after a week or two and my xbox one s 2tb now sits collecting dust in the living room. after reading a bit about this specific video card vs. rx 480 i decided to stick with nv and bought this card because my psu is only 430w and can't justify the purchase of a new psu after spending $400 on a 2TB xbone s. you know that feeling of guilt when you kinda think you made an uninformed purchase... this card is superior in every which way, shape, and form compared to the gtx 960 that will be sold this weekend. doom looks absolutely sick locked @ 60fps 1440p on a dell p2715q. i'm one of those people that upgrade slowly as i test things out and get more comfortable with them. i was initially going to purchase a gtx 1070 but decided against it since i only have a 60hz monitor and 60fps is sufficient for my needs at this time. odds are i'll upgrade to a higher level card in the next three to six months and continue up the graphics card food chain as deals come a knocking. the card doesn't look fancy nor does it pretend to be. i don't want fancy. i want functional and disposable so i can upgrade once new cards come out. my desktop sits right underneath my desk and after playing for a couple of hours it's not hot under my desk. compared to the gtx 960 this card is not as hot. the underside of my desk was getting so hot that i had to put a small mini vornado to suck out the air and today's the first time it's been off this past month since upgrading to the gtx 960 couple months ago. i'd say this deal is an absolute steal. buy it now!
