Reviews
The Planet FT-80x series Fast Ethernet Bridge converters offer a quick, efficient and inexpensive solution for conversion between 100BASE-FX fiber and 10/100BASE-TX shielded twisted pair (STP). These converters accept various types of Ethernet Media on an RJ-45 port, and the fiber port of the converters operates at 1310 nm and uses ST, SC, MTRJ, VF45 or WDM connectors. Multi-mode models that support distances up to 2km and single-mode models that support distances up to 15/20/35/50/60km are available. Plus, these converters are built with metal housing with anti-corrosion treatment, ensuring reliable strength and durability to withstand harsh environments.

Auto Adaptability
The converter auto-adapts to the highest level of performance supported by the device connected to the STP port. When the device is a switch or a workstation that supports full duplex, the converter adapts to the full-duplex mode and provides an effective 200Mbps bandwidth. When the connected device is a hub or a workstation that supports only half duplex, the converter adapts to the half-duplex mode and provides the nominal 100Mbps bandwidth. An override switch provides total manual control over the half/full-duplex operation in fiber-optic interface.
Enhanced Management
The FT-80x series is with LFP (Link Fault Pass-through function which includes LLCF and LLR) and the DIP switch design. LLCF/LLR can immediately alert administrators to the problem of the link media and provide efficient solution to monitoring the net. The DIP switch provides the disabling or enabling of the LFP function
LLCF (Link Loss Carry Forward) means when a device is connected to the converter and the TP line loses the link, the converter's fiber will disconnect the link of transmission. LLR (Link Loss Return) means when a device is connected to the converter and the fiber line loses the link, the converter's fiber will disconnect the transmission link. Both can immediately alert administrators to the problem of the link media and provide efficient solution to monitoring the net.
Applications
Standalone and Centralized Management Media Converter Installation
To meet the demand for the growing network, PLANET FT-80x has provided the advanced media conversion technology. The FT-80x media converter provides various fiber connecting types to meet different network applications. It is very flexible for the FT-80x to work as a standalone device or to be installed into the central standard media converter chassis for providing centralized power. The FT-80x is an ideal solution to building a network solution of FTTH (Fiber to the Home) or FTTC (Fiber to the Curb) and FTTB (Fiber to the Building) for ISPs, campuses and enterprises.

LOADING...
The PLANET FT-802 is a 10/100BASE-TX-to-100BASE-FX media converter for connecting Ethernet equipment with an RJ45 copper connection to a multimode SC fiber link up to 2 km, making it suitable for extending compatible 10/100 networks over fiber.
Recommended For
- Network installers extending a 10/100 Ethernet connection between rooms or buildings over existing multimode fiber with SC connectors, where the link is within the converter’s 2 km full-duplex limit and the far end supports 100BASE-FX.
- IT staff connecting legacy 10/100 Ethernet equipment to a compatible fiber link when replacing a copper segment with fiber, without needing a gigabit connection.
- Technicians maintaining a simple point-to-point Fast Ethernet link who want link-fault pass-through to help identify a break on the copper or fiber side.
- Installers adding a compact, standalone fiber-to-copper conversion point where a compatible 100BASE-FX connection and local power are available.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- Connecting two network areas over an existing multimode fiber run: use a matched converter at each end to bridge a 10/100 Ethernet connection onto the fiber, then back to Ethernet; the link can extend between areas where a copper run is impractical, within the fiber’s supported range.
- Extending a wired network to a remote Ethernet device, such as a camera, when the site has compatible fiber: the converter provides an Ethernet connection at the far end. It does not provide PoE, so the device needs a separate power source or powered equipment.
- Adding a fiber connection to a switch or Ethernet device that has no fiber port: connect its RJ45 port to the FT-802 and use a compatible fiber link to reach the network’s other end. This is a 10/100 Ethernet solution, not a gigabit upgrade.
- Reusing a legacy 10/100 Ethernet device on a fiber-connected network: the converter translates between its copper Ethernet port and a compatible 100BASE-FX fiber link, allowing the device to connect without replacing it solely for a fiber interface.
- Checking a fiber link during installation or troubleshooting: the front-panel link and activity indicators give a quick visual check of power and port status; link-fault-pass-through support can help surface certain link failures when enabled and configured appropriately.
