if you want to Daisy chain to another using the second port you'll need a 1amp Poe instead tho.

Shawn, we are using these as a wireless bridge between buildings.  It's a great way to extend your network to other places without having to pull cable.  In our case it goes from a main public works shop to a transfer stations scale shack and to a fuel shack. (I work for County IT).  The Ubiquiti products work great and are low cost.  You can also use them as a wireless access point.

15km translates to 9.3 miles, I'm wondering if these could reliably link in a somewhat rural area over a distance of 8.7 miles? (no direct line-of-sight, trees and such in between)

If not, could the UbiQuiTi NanoStation LOCOM9 or another product do it?

I doubt it would work that far if its not line of sight.  We have used these with trees and buildings blocking our line of sight but it really cuts down on the distance that they will work.  Only way to find out for sure would be to set 2 of them up and see.  Even the LOCOM9 may not do the trick depending on how many trees, buildings, etc you have between them.

Question 5

Does it take a pair of these or can you mount one on a house and point it toward a garage and get wifi coverage in the garage without any extra equipment?

If you connect the NS to a wired internet access point (like a cable modem) and configure it as an access point then any WIFI device that covers 5 GHz band can connect to it and access the internet. At 5 GHz it does not take much to block the signal, though, so devices in the garage may, or may not, be able to see the signal. In case the signal does not penetrate the garage, you would be forced to have a second device on the outside of the garage and run a wire inside.

I'm looking to connect an IP camera to an IP camera network from one building to another which is located across the street.

How do I know which one to use?

Not sure what you mean on which one to use?  This M5 will work great  for you.  I'm assuming you are putting up this device and connecting it to the IP camera.  Then you will use another to bridge and existing network and make the Camera part of that network.

Just imagine these M5 devices as long invisible patch cables.

Question 7

I recently installed a wireless bridge using Ubiquiti dishes configured as  a plug and play wireless bridge that is working very well.  Those antennas have the ability for point to point and point to multi point.  Would a nanostation receive the signal or will I need to install another dish?  I want to have access in a building about 250 ft from my receiving end of the bridge.  If not this nano station, is there something else that might work?   Thanks, Patrick

All will work fine as long as it's the same frequency. 2.4 GHZ or 5 GHZ. They make the Nanostation in both just match it to the same frequency the dishes are putting out.

Is this unit able to be monitored/controlled by the Unifi software which controls all my ubiquiti WAPs?

I don't believe so. We don't use the Unifi monitoring software and set up as we have found it too cumbersome. This has the standard GUI Airmax. One other problem that we had with Unifi is that it would only work with one computer and could not be controlled with another should another employee decide to modify parameters.

This is my experience from a year ago. Ubnt could have changed it in the last year.

Question 10

If I hooked this up to my computer, would it connect to my airport in the house from the garage? And will I get good speeds?

you need to set an antenna mount  and yes it will connect if the airport  is a  5 ghz transmitter. to connect your laptop to your radio your laptop must have a 5 ghz wifi radio or connect through a cat 5
