Do any of the users know if the voltage is locked on these, and if it is, if there are any quality bios available to flash that would unlock the voltage?

Voltage is no longer locked with the release of Afterburner Beta 17. There is a limit of +100mV. If you need more, you can use the Asus 290X bios, there are a few different versions. The stock one with GPU Tweak is fine for most purposes.

Wondering if a FX6350 on a Giggabyte GA-990FxA-UDE motherboard and Corsair GS600 watt psu will be a substantial base to run this card on?

Yes it can! just need to make sure you have 2 eight pin connectors for video. Please, check your power supply! They use 2 eight pin not, 2 six pin.

Hi Newegg,
     I wanted to know what kind of cooler this cars uses. In the specification field the cooler is listed as the windforce 3, but the product picture shows the reference coolers. What cooler is it? This is the only thing keeping me from buying the card.

Was wondering, will this card be able to run optimally with a Phenom 2 955 x4 Quad Core Processor?

I am currently running an Intel i7 860 which was current with your CPU.  The R9 290 will run very well on mine I have been told. I have not had a chance to set it up yet.  I run 2GB 5870's in crossfire. The R9 is suppose to eat their lunch by the benchmarks I have seen so I would get the card if you are running an older video card because the CPU does not matter that much.

Does the card now come with Windforce 3x? It sounds like it didn't previously, but it says so in the specifications.

I am not seeing where it is listed in the specs that this comes with the Windforce 3x cooling fans system, but to be specific about the card I received, it did NOT have Windforce 3x on it.

To the best of my knowledge, this card model will never have the Windforce 3x put on it as that would be a different model. The card on this page, with this specific model number, will remain the reference card with reference fan.

As for performance goes, I have never purchased a "top of the line" video card that has performed even remotely close to as well as this card does. There are no heat issues, nor any performance degradation issues, as described in the majority of the reviews.

My statement there, to be clear, means that if you bought a brand new AMD HD 7970 the first month it came out and used the 7970 on the standard high end games of that time, this card performs better using it on the games that are out now and are standard high end requirement games.

The reference fan is definitely somewhat loud, but the only time the fans are loud enough for me to even mention is when I am pushing the card to maximum khash rate while mining crypto-currencies.

During gaming, if you use even the slightest amount of volume, it is so seldom that the fans crank up to a noticeable level that I can really only recall a single time I actually noticed and that was for about 10 seconds total.

Absolutely INSANE performance from this card. If you are interested in getting the most out of any video card from AMD, I would recommend that you get the reference card, such as the one on this page, and then use a custom cooling solution. That way you have full access to clock speeds and nothing has been tampered with by the partner company to overclock from factory, restricting you to the clock speeds provided. You can almost always push a reference card in ways you only wish you could push an overclocked partner card.
