With excellent cooling capacity and superb low operation noise, the Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm fan is a great choice for overclockers and DIY enthusiasts. Featuring a square 140mm frame, this case fan is compatible with 140mm mounting holes, as well as 140mm water-cooling radiators. An array of sophisticated aerodynamic designs, such as Flow Acceleration Channels, ensures class-leading cooling to tame your high-end system. At the same time, the rugged SSO2 bearing and metal-bearing shell deliver strength and durability for long-lasting, worry-free performance. The custom-designed NE-FD1 PWM (pulse-width modulation) IC (integrated circuit) allows fully-automatic speed control via 4-pin fan headers. An included Low-Noise-Adapter can be used when necessary, to reduce maximum speed from 1500rpm to 1200rpm for quieter operation.
Noctua’s previous NF-P14 fan has become a default-choice among PC enthusiasts looking for a premium-quality, quiet 140mm fan. Thanks to its thoroughgoing aerodynamic optimizations, the NF-A14 provides higher static pressure and an even better airflow/noise ratio than its much-acclaimed predecessor.
The NF-A14’s square 140mm frame with 140mm mounting holes (124.5mm spacing) makes it a premium-grade replacement for common 140mm case fans and is perfect for use on 140mm water-cooling radiators, where its square shape will ensure full coverage and the best pressure performance.
The NF-A14 impeller features suction-side Flow Acceleration Channels. By speeding up the airflow at the crucial outer blade regions, this measure reduces suction-side flow separation and thus leads to better efficiency and lower vortex noise.
Noctua’s AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimization) frames feature integrated anti-vibration pads as well as Noctua’s exclusive Stepped Inlet Design and Inner Surface Microstructures, both of which further refine the fan’s performance/noise efficiency.
Noctua’s Stepped Inlet Design adds turbulence to the influx in order to facilitate the transition from laminar flow to turbulent flow, which reduces tonal intake noise, improves flow attachment and increases suction capacity, especially in space-restricted environments.
With the tips of the fan blades ploughing through the boundary layer created by the Inner Surface Microstructures, flow separation from the suction side of the blades is significantly suppressed, which results in reduced blade-passing noise and improved airflow and pressure efficiency.
Integrated anti-vibration pads made from extra-soft silicone minimize the transmission of minute vibrations while maintaining full compatibility with standard screws and other mounting systems.
The NF-A14 features the further-optimized second generation of Noctua’s renowned, time-tested SSO bearing. With SSO2, the rear magnet is placed closer to the axis to provide even better stabilization, precision and durability.
In order to guarantee the highest possible degree of manufacturing precision, minimum tolerance and excellent long-term stability, the NF-A14 sports a CNC-milled bearing shell made entirely from brass.
Supporting fully-automatic PWM speed control, the NF-A14 PWM uses Noctua’s novel, custom-designed NE-FD1 PWM IC that integrates Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology. By providing smoother torque impulses, SCD suppresses PWM-switching noises and thus makes the fan quieter at low speeds.
When the fan is set to a 0% PWM duty cycle via the motherboard or PWM fan controller, it will stop. This makes it ideal for creating setups with semi-passive cooling that automatically turn the fans off and thus run completely silent at idle if thermals allow.
The NF-A14 PWM is supplied with a Low-Noise Adapter (L.N.A.) that reduces the maximum fan speed from 1500 to 1200rpm. The L.N.A can be used either to run the fan at a fixed speed of 1200rpm or to cap the maximum speed when using automatic PWM control.
