The Kingston KC600 is a 256GB mSATA internal SSD with a SATA III interface and sequential speeds up to 550 MB/s read and 500 MB/s write, suited to consumers upgrading a system that supports mSATA storage.
Recommended For
- Owners of older laptops or compact PCs with an mSATA slot who want to replace a hard drive or aging SSD with a boot drive for everyday computing.
- People refurbishing or maintaining a specific mSATA-equipped system who need a small internal SATA drive for its operating system and frequently used applications.
- Users replacing a compatible mSATA drive in a thin or space-constrained device where a standard 2.5-inch SSD will not fit.
- SATA-system users who want a responsive everyday drive but do not need NVMe-class transfer speeds; professional testing places the KC600 near the practical performance ceiling for SATA SSDs.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- Upgrade an older laptop that has an mSATA SATA slot: use the KC600 as the boot drive to reduce the wait for startup and everyday app launches compared with a hard drive.
- Use it as the system drive in a compatible mini PC or compact appliance with an mSATA slot, keeping the operating system and frequently used programs on internal storage without needing a 2.5-inch drive bay.
- Refresh a SATA-based desktop or laptop for everyday web browsing, documents, and routine apps: reviews of the KC600 report quicker Windows startup and app launches than on a hard-drive-based system.
- Keep the operating system, applications, and a modest set of active documents or photos on one drive; 256GB suits a focused system-drive setup better than a large media archive.
- Move everyday files between a compatible system and the drive with less waiting than on a hard drive; it uses SATA, so it is intended for SATA-level storage performance rather than NVMe-class speeds.
