Question 1

Samsung P7 vs T9: which portable SSD should I get?

Accepted Answer

Choose the P7 if your computer supports USB4 and you want its higher rated sequential speeds: up to 4,000 MB/s read and 3,700 MB/s write, compared with the T9’s up to 2,000 MB/s read and write. The T9 is a fit if its USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 performance meets your needs; actual speeds depend on the drive’s host connection.

Question 2

Is the Samsung P7 worth upgrading to from the T7?

Accepted Answer

The P7 is the more suitable upgrade when you have a USB4-capable device and regularly move large files: its rated sequential speeds are up to 4,000/3,700 MB/s, versus the T7’s up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s. For everyday storage and transfers where those higher speeds are not needed, the T7’s lower rated speeds may be sufficient. Actual performance depends on the host and connection.

Question 3

Should I buy the Samsung P7 or spend more on the P9?

Accepted Answer

Choose the P7 for versatile storage across work and everyday devices. The P9 is Samsung’s flagship P-series drive and is positioned for demanding production workflows, including 12K direct recording on compatible setups. Their rated maximum read speeds are both 4,000 MB/s; the P9 is rated for up to 3,800 MB/s write, compared with 3,700 MB/s for the P7. Consider the P9 when its production-focused positioning and slightly higher rated write speed match your workload.

Question 4

Samsung P7 or T7 Shield for travel and outdoor use?

Accepted Answer

Choose the P7 if transfer speed on a USB4 host is the priority: it is rated for up to 4,000/3,700 MB/s and drop resistance up to 2 meters. Choose the T7 Shield when its IP65 water-and-dust resistance better fits your travel or outdoor conditions; its rated sequential speeds are up to 1,050/1,000 MB/s. Both are portable SSDs, but they emphasize different trade-offs.

Question 5

Is this SSD suitable for carrying between work locations?

Accepted Answer

It is a compact option for carrying work files: the drive weighs 98 g, measures 65 × 90 × 8.3 mm, and is rated to withstand drops up to 6.5 feet. That drop rating does not mean it is waterproof or damage-proof, so protect it from liquids and severe impacts.

Question 6

Will it reach 4,000 MB/s read and 3,700 MB/s write speeds on any computer?

Accepted Answer

No. Those are maximum rated sequential speeds; the connected device and port must support USB4 Gen 3x2 at 40 Gbps to make full use of the drive’s interface. A slower connection can limit transfer speeds.

Question 7

Can I use it with a smartphone or tablet to store photos and videos?

Accepted Answer

The product information lists smartphones and tablets among supported device types, making it a potential option for extra storage or file transfers. Check that your specific device supports external USB storage and has a compatible connection; support can vary by device.

Question 8

Is 1TB enough for creative work and large project files?

Accepted Answer

1TB provides space for project files, datasets, AI models, photos, and videos, but whether it is enough depends on how large your files are and how many you keep on the drive. It is a better fit for portable working storage or file transfers than for someone who needs to keep a very large archive on one drive.

Question 9

Is the Samsung P7 worth its price for professional video work?

Accepted Answer

It may suit workflows that can use USB4 and its advertised speeds of up to 4,000 MB/s read and 3,700 MB/s write. However, a Reddit discussion about the P7’s launch pricing raised cost concerns, and some videography commenters said they were choosing other brands. Compare the actual price and your device’s USB4 support before buying; the listed maximum speeds alone do not establish sustained real-world performance.
