The SONY 5280S-CB-ROBOT is a 5.25-inch, tray-loading SATA DVD/CD burner for desktop PCs with a compatible drive bay, suited to users who need to write DVDs and CDs, including dual-layer DVDs, at speeds up to 16X for DVD±R and 48X for CD-R.

Recommended For

• Owners of compatible automated CD/DVD publishers who need a replacement drive for disc duplication or publishing workflows.
• Desktop PC builders with an available 5.25-inch bay and SATA connection who need to read or burn CDs and DVDs.
• Small offices or studios that regularly create CD/DVD copies for clients, events, or physical-media distribution and already use a compatible disc-publishing setup.
• Users who need to access or make CD and DVD media—including dual-layer DVDs—on a desktop with the required internal SATA connection.

Real-World Use Scenarios

• In a compatible automated disc publisher, use the drive to produce multiple copies of a DVD or CD with less manual disc handling; the ROBOT variant is positioned for use with robotic disc-publishing equipment.
• When distributing files or finished media to people who need physical copies, burn them onto recordable DVDs or CDs; the drive supports both formats, but the recipient still needs a compatible disc reader.
• To make a playable DVD-Video disc from authored video, use DVD-authoring software and burn the finished project; the drive can write DVD media, but authoring software is needed to prepare the disc.
• For temporary transfers or frequently updated offline copies, write files to rewritable CD or DVD media and reuse the disc later; this requires compatible rewritable media and burning software.
• When a computer needs to read or create audio CDs, use the drive with CD media and compatible software; it supports CD-DA audio formats as well as CD reading and writing.
