The StarTech.com HDMM5MA is a 15 ft (5 m) active High Speed HDMI cable with male-to-male connectors, suited to connecting HDMI devices such as TVs, projectors, and gaming consoles when they need to be placed farther apart.
Recommended For
- Users connecting a laptop, desktop, or media player to a 4K display or projector at up to 4K/30Hz, when a 5m HDMI run is needed.
- Conference-room, classroom, or home-office users who need a fixed HDMI connection from a presentation source to a display several meters away.
- Users extending a 1080p signal to a TV or projector, including setups that use refresh rates up to 120Hz.
- Installers making a permanent or in-wall HDMI run where the cable’s CL2 rating is appropriate and the source-to-display direction can be planned.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- In a classroom or meeting room, connect a laptop or workstation to a projector across the room for presentations; the cable carries video and audio without a separate power adapter, with supported 4K output limited to 30 Hz.
- When a TV or projector is several feet from a Blu-ray player, DVR, or other HDMI source, use the cable for a direct connection across the room; its active circuitry is designed to help maintain the signal over this longer run.
- For a home-office presentation setup, connect a laptop or professional workstation to a large display positioned away from the desk; the cable supports compatible video and audio formats, including 4K at up to 30 Hz.
- When installing the cable between a source device and a TV, monitor, or projector, check the connector labels before routing it: the end marked “TV” must connect to the display for the directional cable to work correctly.
- For a console-to-TV connection, use it when the devices are separated by a longer room-scale run and the console is set to a supported HDMI mode; it supports up to 4K at 30 Hz, so it is not suited to 4K gaming at 60 Hz or higher.
