The Black Box Network Services USB 2.0 Extender is a four-port extender for connecting USB 2.0 or USB 1.1 devices over fiber, making it suitable for IT and AV setups that need remote USB access—up to 500 m over multimode fiber or 10 km over singlemode cable.
Recommended For
- Facilities teams extending keyboards, mice, touchscreens, or other USB controls between a workstation and industrial equipment across a multimode-fiber run.
- Security installers placing USB web cameras or access-control peripherals far from the host computer, when the site has a multimode-fiber path between them.
- Classrooms and meeting rooms that need to connect several remote USB devices—such as interactive whiteboards, cameras, or shared peripherals—to one computer over fiber.
- Remote-workstation or KVM setups where the USB connection must reach a distant keyboard, mouse, storage device, or other USB 2.0 peripheral; video extension requires a separate solution.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- In a factory or control room, keep the computer away from the operator station and connect remote USB controls, a keyboard, and a mouse over fiber; the operator can use the peripherals without relocating the host PC.
- In a classroom or meeting room, connect a remotely placed interactive whiteboard or touchscreen and other USB peripherals to the host computer; the PC can stay away from the display area while users interact at the front of the room.
- For a security or access-control setup, place a compatible USB webcam or other USB peripheral away from the monitoring PC and link it back over fiber; the computer can remain in a separate control or equipment area.
- In a remote office or equipment room, connect a printer, scanner, or USB storage device back to a computer over fiber; the four remote USB ports let several compatible peripherals sit near the user or equipment.
