The StarTech.com PEX1394B3 is a PCI Express FireWire card that adds two FireWire 800 ports and one FireWire 400 port to a desktop computer, making it suitable for connecting compatible legacy FireWire devices that need a mix of 1394b and 1394a connections.
Recommended For
- Desktop users transferring MiniDV or other FireWire camera footage can add a FireWire connection through an available PCIe slot; confirm the camera and capture software are supported by the computer’s operating system.
- Owners of legacy FireWire 400 or 800 external drives and digital cameras who want to connect them to a PCIe-equipped desktop can use the card’s mix of FireWire 800 and FireWire 400 ports.
- Users maintaining a compatible FireWire audio interface in a stationary recording setup may find the PCIe connection useful, but should verify the exact interface, card revision, operating system, and driver combination before relying on it.
- Desktop users who need several legacy FireWire connections at once can add up to three ports—two FireWire 800 and one FireWire 400—rather than relying on a single built-in port.
