is this made in usa?

I'd like to think it is, but at this price, I think it is VERY unlikely that this is made in the States. Since it is in service 24/7 for me, I am rarely able to look it over carefully enough to see whether there are any markings saying "Made in the USA"

Will this connect to my laptop for backup storage?  What type of port would I need my laptop to have?

Yes, I use mine to backup my laptop using windows utilities to automate the process. It uses standard USB plug, and is backward compatible, but slower. A full backup of a large drive takes some time. The hard drive is a rotating disc type, and even though it uses USB 3.0, it is nowhere as fast as a ssd drive. Bear this in mind when using.

Does this work with PS4?

If properly formated there's really no reason it shouldn't. Unless there's a max HDD size you can use wsith ps4.

I suspect it's a 5400RPM drive? Even with USB3.0 a 5400RPM drive is significantly slower than a 7200RPM drive. A 5400RPM drive makes this not as good of a deal!

It is a 5400 RPM drive but I have seen transfer rates up to 180/sec. with USB 3.0

What is the model number of the bare 10TB Hard Drive in this?

Using windows utilities, I was unable to determine the model number. You would probably need to disassemble the drive to read that information off of the drive itself. For a  ten GB drive under 200, I wouldn't expect it to be more than their most basic model.

You will need additional software knowledge to schedule it. By itself imagine its a just a big pendrive

Sorry i don't have the answer & not meaning to waste your time but, what does CMR/SMR mean & what's the difference and, have you confirmed that it is CMR?

Does this have onboard encryption or is it unencrypted?  A previous WD drive power port failed and that apparently is where the encryption was so the data is lost forever.  Can anyone confirm if it just stores data without onboard encryption or does it still encrypt the data as it stores it like the previous drives?

elements dont use encryption. I've removed the drives before to use them as internals and its just a simple usb sata board connected to a normal drive. most externals are the same, search a shucking guide

Password protection is not something inherent to disk drives. If you want your data protected, you need to have software to encrypt the files.
