Question 1

What is maximum physical dimensions that this case will fit? I have a drive that is 15 mm thick.  Will this case fit a drive that thick?

Short answer: No!

Long answer: As per your question, I took my 2.5" drive out of the FileMate enclosure/case and measured (best I could) what the thickest (maximum) 2.5" HD would fit in the enclosure and it seems to be 11mm...15mm is too thick (high) to fit.

One reason is design: The case is curved inward (both top & bottom is concave) and so it's not a true RECTANGULAR case! If it were the same width in the middle of the case as it is at the edges -- a true rectangle -- it looks like a 12mm thick HD would fit, but due to the concave in the middle, it seems only an 11mm thick HD would fit (and THAT very snugly and probably the top of the HD touching the top of the enclosure), but probably WOULD go in and be usable. But NO WAY would a 15mm thick HD fit!

Regardless, if you're handy with tools/making stuff, all you need it to make a slightly wider enclosure for it as you really only need the circuit-board electronics here to hook up to your HD, not REALLY the enclosure/case itself. So if you're willing to make your own 2.5" enclosure, this product's electronics would work fine.

That is, it'd work fine IF the case's electronics/controller recognizes a large HD as you have. Meaning, the 3 laptop HDs I have in my 3 FileMate enclosures are 160GB, so that's why my HDs are only about 7mm thick (high) and fit into the case with LOTS of room to spare height-wise (well, 4mm of "headroom" left, for an 11mm thick HD as mentioned). If your 15mm thick HD also means (which I assume it does) it's a much higher-capacity HD (way more GB than 160) then the controller probably has a limit what size/GB capacity HD it will recognize (sorry, I forget what that is). But if it DOES recognize your HD's GB capacity, then you could STILL use the electronics (as said above) and plug your HD into that, but just not the case it goes into because 15mm it WAY too thick to fit inside.

It's my understanding that the Wintec FileMate 2.5" USB 2.0 HD Enclosure (specifically, I'm talking ONLY about Wintec FileMate model 3FME2500GW-R as seen on the enclosures' labels/stickers) is only good for up to 500GB. This works fine for ME since all 3 of my Wintec laptop HD enclosures house (Hitachi) HDs of only 160GB each, and since I don't have any LARGER laptop HDs, this will work for me (but it's nice to know I COULD go up to 500GB in the future if I wanted with these 3 Wintecs). So, if you need a higher capacity than 500GB, you'd probably need a different model of Wintec FileMate HD enclosure, if they make one for more than 500GB HDs...unless Wintec has somehow changed this capacity limit since I got my 3 units a while back. Perhaps e-mail them directly to find out for sure, as I can only guess as I'm just talking about the 3 Wintec 2.5" enclosures *I* own and got some time back. Good luck...

I don't see a power supply in the pics. This does come with a power supply, right ?

It does not, but it is powered off a single USB in use meaning you don't have to have multiple USB plugs or a "brick" and power cords with it to use it.

i have a usb 2.0 400 800 drive i need to change case. i just need to get stuff off of it. can i use this w the usb to pull the stuff from it?
