The StarTech.com HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapter connects an HDMI 2.0 source to a DisplayPort monitor, supporting up to 4K at 60Hz, HDR, and two-channel DisplayPort audio. It suits users connecting a laptop, desktop, or Chromebook with HDMI output to a DisplayPort display.
Recommended For
- Laptop or desktop users whose only suitable video output is HDMI and who need to connect to a DisplayPort-only monitor or projector, including for an extended desktop.
- People working with 4K graphics or other detailed visual content who need an HDMI-equipped computer connected to a DisplayPort monitor, at up to 4K 60Hz when both devices support it.
- Users connecting an HDMI-output camera to a DisplayPort monitor for viewing footage without routing it through a computer.
- People setting up a desk or workstation who want a short adapter lead between the computer and monitor connectors to reduce direct strain on the ports.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- Connect an HDMI-only laptop to a DisplayPort monitor when the monitor lacks an HDMI input; with the adapter powered over USB, the monitor can serve as an external display for the laptop.
- Add a DisplayPort monitor as a second screen to an HDMI-equipped laptop for documents, spreadsheets, or web pages; the extra screen provides room to keep work visible while multitasking.
- Use an HDMI-output desktop with a 4K DisplayPort monitor when the computer and monitor support the desired display mode; this adapter can carry up to 4K at 60 Hz.
- Work on graphic or design files using a DisplayPort monitor connected to a computer’s HDMI output; the larger external display provides a workspace for viewing and editing.
- View footage from an HDMI-equipped camera on a DisplayPort monitor when the camera’s screen is too small for review; the adapter sends the camera’s video to the monitor.
