Would I need a usb dongle with it?

You would need a USB SIM card reader compatible with the SIM card size and mobile network protocol you use (and a SIM card and data plan, of course). They are very inexpensive and versatile. Size can almost always be fixed with the free adapters that come with the SIM cards, and as long as it can do both GSM and CDMA/WCMDA, you're covered. Alternatively, you can just use this as a wifi hotspot/repeater, which is handy.

What is the hardware version??? That's very important because older versions are abandoned without updates. This question has been asked for 3 years with no answer from the seller? Seriously?

Currently, under the specs tab for the product it shows TL-WR902AC v3 I just bought this and the manufacturers sticker on the side says ver 3.8
