Excellent Motherboard Choice for Threadripper
Pros: * Looks incredible * Well laid out with lots of connectors (SATA/USB/M.2) * Great features * Reasonable price for the features
Cons: * Too much unnecessary software during driver installation. You can choose not to install but it was overwhelming to figure out what I needed/wanted vs. what I did not need/want * Poor memory support at initial release, finding memory that runs at 3600+ that works was a pain * MSI support system is wonky and cumbersome but the techs did seem to provide helpful support including unreleased beta bios versions to help me resolve issues. * Product is not listed on MSI site unless you search for it explicitly which did not inspire confidence
Overall Review: Overall I am very satisfied with this product. It looks really great, especially with a nice water cooler like the Corsair Hydro H100i v2. There are a TON of settings to fiddle with to overclock and customize your rig which is nice to see. My biggest problem was that the initial BIOS that ships with the product was not thoroughly tested and didn't support my memory out of the box. I got the G.Skill Trident-Z RGB @ 3600MHz 2 X 16GB. As of this writing, the latest official release still doesn't support those sticks but the beta BIOS does seem to work. Check the compatibility charts carefully if you want to avoid issues.
Excellent Product
Pros: - Very clean and handsome look/design - Runs fast and fairly cool - Very reliable (had these since Sept 2017, have performed exceeding well) - A lot of room for tweaking performance - Easy to adjust RGB lighting
Cons: - Were on the expensive side when I bought them in Sept 2017 - Had compatibility issues with MSI x399 Gaming Pro Carbon when Threadripper first came out (not G.Skills fault though) - Wish there were more options to control the rgb lighting
Overall Review: This was the first G.Skill product I have ever purchased and came from mostly Corsair memory in past PC's. I bought these for a Threadripper build when it was initially released and wanted large sticks for the greatest room for future growth. Aside from the motherboard (MSI x399 Gaming Pro Carbon) having a Beta bios upon release and which did not support the memory properly I have had no issues. Even then, the issue I had was not the fault of the memory. The memory did initially work though and MSI was quick to provide me with an updated BIOS to fix that issue. I have been extremely happy with these sticks and will definitely purchase more in the future...very satisfied customer.
Excellent product
Pros: * well built * high quality components * low noise at normal workload * reliable trustworthy brand * modular (a must these days, especially in small form factor PC's)
Cons: * moderately expensive * too many unnecessary cables for rated wattage * was missing some mounting screws * excessive packaging
Overall Review: This is an excellent product. With a power supply you get what you pay for, one should never skimp your budget on a power supply or you are playing with fire and you are bound to get burned at some point. As SeaSonic is a designer and producer of their products I feel that this enables greater control of the end product whereas products by those who merely design and then farm out production have less control. I typically find inexperienced builders will use low-quality PSU's and it eventually they regret it when their PSU dies or cause system failure or worse. You may get lucky and never have a problem with a cheap unit but odds are not with you for reliable continued use. So to those who are newbies, heed this warning and spring for a unit like this one. The best result is never having any problem at all and that is exactly what you will get with a unit such as this.
