200/160Mbps Downstream/Upstream, High Performance Gigabit Ethernet over Phone Wire Solution
PLANET VC-231G, a new-generation and high-performance Gigabit Ethernet-over-VDSL2 Converter, works well with a pervasive telephone line network with a symmetric data rate of up to 200/160Mbps (G. INP, Sym, 8dB) over a distance of 300m and 20/12Mbps over a long distance of 1.4 km. It is based on the two-core networking technology, Gigabit Ethernet and VDSL2 (Very-high-data-rate Digital Subscriber Line 2). The VDSL2 technology offers absolutely the fastest data transmission speed over the existing copper telephone lines without the need of rewiring.
- ITU-T G. 993.5 G. vectoring and G. INP
- DMT-based coding technology
- Built-in POST splitter to share voice and date
- CO/CPE mode selectable via DIP switch
- Selectable target band plan and SNR margin
- Up to 200/160Mbps bandwidth
- 1 10/100/1000BASE-TX LAN ports
- Complies with IEEE 802.3, 10BASE-T, IEEE 802.3 u, 100BASE-TX and IEEE 802.3 x, flow control Ethernet standards
- Half duplex back pressure and IEEE 802.3 x full duplex pause frame flow control
- One RJ11 connector for VDSL port with VDSL connection
- Voice and data communication can be shared simultaneously based on the existing telephone wire
- Supports a packet size of up to 9K bytes, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tag transparency
- VDSL2 standalone transceiver for simple bridge modem application
- Advantage of minimum installation time (Simply by Plug-and-Play)
- Supports extensive LED indicators for network diagnosis
- Co-work with PLANET media converter chassis (MC-700/MC-1500/ MC-1500R/MC-1500R48)
- Compact in size and easy to install

LOADING...
The PLANET VC-231G is a single-port Gigabit Ethernet-to-VDSL2 converter/bridge for users who need to connect Ethernet devices over a VDSL2 link, with support for up to 200/160 Mbps bandwidth, G.vectoring, and G.INP.
Recommended For
- Network installers connecting a remote room, apartment, or outbuilding to an Ethernet network over existing telephone wiring, when they can install a matching CO/CPE converter pair.
- Building or hospitality network operators extending wired service to multiple rooms over installed phone cabling, where running new Ethernet is impractical.
- IT teams extending a wired link between network equipment and a remote switch, PC, or router over an existing copper phone pair instead of installing new cable.
- Experienced users building a simple VDSL bridge connection who already have compatible VDSL infrastructure and plan to use a separate router or network equipment on the Ethernet side.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- When a room or outbuilding has existing telephone-pair wiring but no Ethernet run, use a compatible VDSL2 unit at each end to carry the network connection over that wire; the link can avoid installing new cable, with actual performance depending on the wire and distance.
- For a small property with several remote buildings, use a compatible VDSL2 distribution device at the network end and a VC-231G at a remote building to provide a wired Ethernet connection over existing phone cable; this can extend the site network without running new Ethernet between buildings.
- In a building where telephone wiring is already in place, pair the VC-231G with a compatible VDSL2 endpoint to extend Ethernet to a location that is difficult to reach with new cable; the device bridges the wired network rather than providing Wi-Fi.
- Where a compatible VDSL2 access system is already installed, use the VC-231G as the customer-side bridge to connect a router or other Ethernet device to the VDSL2 line; check endpoint compatibility and line configuration before deployment.
- If the existing phone pair still carries analog telephone service, use the supplied splitter to share that line with the VDSL2 data connection, provided the wiring and service support the arrangement.
