The StarTech.com VSEDIDHD is an HDMI EDID emulator for users who need to improve compatibility between an HDMI video source and a monitor, TV, or projector. It supports EDID copying and ghosting, resolutions up to 1080p at 60Hz, and retains EDID settings when unplugged.
Recommended For
- AV or IT installers troubleshooting a blank screen or incorrect resolution when an HDMI switch, extender, or KVM interrupts communication between a computer and display; the emulator can copy the display’s EDID and pass it to the source.
- Users connecting older or other equipment that does not provide EDID, including some analog-to-digital adapters, who need the HDMI source to receive compatible display information.
- Installers setting up HDMI computers, Blu-ray players, or DVD players with displays or projectors who need to copy a display’s EDID or select a suitable emulated profile.
- Technicians managing several HDMI display setups who want to save and select stored EDID settings for different displays.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- A computer connected to a monitor through an HDMI switch or KVM shows no picture or falls back to an unexpected resolution. Placed in the HDMI path and set to copy the monitor’s EDID, the emulator can pass the display’s capability information back to the computer.
- A projector is connected to a source through an HDMI extender, but the source does not detect the projector’s native display mode. Copying the projector’s EDID can help the source receive its display information despite the extender in the signal path.
- An older HDMI source or an analog-to-digital adapter does not provide usable display information. Selecting an appropriate ghosted EDID gives the source emulated display settings, which may help establish a compatible video signal.
- A fixed HDMI installation is unplugged or powered down during maintenance, then reconnected later. Because the emulator stores its EDID settings when unplugged, the copied or selected settings remain available without repeating the setup.
