Leading Online Retailer Tops YOY Black Friday Records With 169% Increase in Sales Order Value and 193% Increase in Orders
CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. - Newegg Inc., the operator of Newegg.com and the second-largest online retailer in the U.S., kicked off the 2008 holiday season with a recession-defying sales day. On Black Friday, traditionally the day retailers launch major holiday sales, Newegg recorded a year over year same day increase in the dollar value of orders taken of more than 169%. Additionally, actual orders increased by 193% year over year, and the number of buyers more than tripled compared to last year's Black Friday.
"We are extremely excited that so many customers have turned to Newegg this holiday season, despite the downturn in the economy. We are particularly pleased that so many new customers have discovered our unbeatable value proposition of low prices, comprehensive product selection, lightning-fast shipping and award-winning customer service," said Bernard Luthi, vice president of marketing and merchandising for Newegg. "Newegg's reputation was built on listening carefully to our customers. This year, customers wanted great deals and Newegg delivered. In the coming weeks, visitors to Newegg.com will see even more amazing deals."
In contrast to most of the retail industry, Newegg is expecting a strong 2008 holiday season. The Company intends to continue to expand from its market-leading positions in computers, notebooks, computer components and software by adding to already strong product offerings in consumer electronics and home appliances.
"Newegg grew into a $1 billion company in the heart of the last recession," added Luthi. "We view market downturns as opportunities to grow our customer base, with the goal of making Newegg.com the premier online destination site for both consumer electronics and IT products."
