Black Box Compact Media Converter Gigabit Ethernet Single Mode 1310nm 10km SC

The Black Box Compact Media Converter connects 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Ethernet with single-mode fiber over distances up to 10 km, making it suitable for network teams extending wired connectivity between buildings or across a campus.

Recommended For

• Network installers extending a 10/100/1000BASE-T copper Ethernet connection over compatible single-mode fiber between rooms, buildings, or other distant network locations.
• IT teams linking network aggregation or access switches to a core switch when the connection needs copper-to-fiber conversion and the fiber path matches this unit’s single-mode SC interface.
• Installers bringing a wired network connection to a desktop PC or VoIP phone over fiber, where the endpoint needs an Ethernet connection and the link is within the converter’s supported distance.
• Facilities networking teams connecting devices across electrically noisy areas, where fiber’s immunity to EMI/RFI is useful and a copper Ethernet handoff is needed at the converter.

Real-World Use Scenarios

• Extend a Gigabit Ethernet connection between buildings over existing single-mode fiber; the converter provides copper RJ-45 connections at the local end, provided the far end has compatible fiber equipment and the link is within its supported distance.
• Connect a copper-only switch or router to an installed single-mode fiber run; the converter bridges the device’s Ethernet port to the fiber link without requiring a fiber port on that device.
• Bring a wired network connection to a desktop or workstation near a fiber outlet; the converter provides RJ-45 Ethernet locally, so the computer does not need its own fiber interface.
• Add a fiber uplink where a network cabinet or remote area has single-mode SC cabling but local equipment uses copper Ethernet; the converter can connect the two media types, subject to matching fiber and link specifications.
