The MSI MAG 245F X24 is a 23.8-inch Full HD Rapid IPS gaming monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate, 0.5ms response time, and FreeSync, suited to competitive gamers who prioritize fast, smooth 1080p play.

Recommended For

  • PC players focused on competitive FPS, fighting, racing, or sports games who want high-refresh 1080p motion; MSI specifically positions this model for fast-moving game genres and lists a 240Hz refresh rate.
  • Players building a 1080p gaming setup who prioritize pursuing high frame rates over the extra detail of a higher-resolution display; the 23.8-inch screen is Full HD and supports up to 240Hz.
  • Gamers who play from different seating positions or share the screen and want an IPS panel with wide viewing angles alongside a high refresh rate.
  • Players connecting a PC or console over HDMI who want a compact 24-inch gaming display; MSI lists HDMI 2.0b inputs and support for adaptive sync.

Real-World Use Scenarios

  • In competitive PC shooters, players can prioritize seeing fast-moving action clearly; the monitor’s high-refresh design is aimed at keeping motion smooth when the PC can deliver high frame rates.
  • For fighting, sports, or racing games, the quick-refresh presentation is intended to make rapid movement feel smoother and easier to follow during play.
  • When PC game frame rates fluctuate, FreeSync can synchronize the display with a compatible AMD graphics card to reduce tearing and uneven-looking motion.
  • In darker games, MSI’s AI Vision feature is intended to reveal more detail in shadowed areas, which can make characters and objects easier to spot.

Reference Q&A

Q: MSI MAG 245F X24 or MAG 274QF for gaming?

A: Choose the MAG 245F X24 if you prefer a 23.8-inch Full HD screen and a maximum 240Hz refresh rate for high-frame-rate gaming. Choose the 27-inch MAG 274QF if you prefer 2560 × 1440 resolution and are comfortable with its maximum 180Hz refresh rate. The choice is primarily between higher refresh rate at 1080p and higher resolution at 1440p.

Q: Should I choose the MSI MAG 245F X24 or a 144Hz Full HD monitor?

A: Choose the MAG 245F X24 if you want the option of up to 240Hz and your games and PC can make good use of high frame rates. A 144Hz Full HD monitor may be sufficient if you do not need refresh rates above 144Hz. The X24 supports 240Hz over DisplayPort and HDMI.

Q: Is the MSI MAG 245F X24 or a 1440p 180Hz monitor a better fit?

A: Choose the MAG 245F X24 for a compact 23.8-inch Full HD display with a higher maximum refresh rate of 240Hz. Choose a 1440p 180Hz monitor, such as MSI’s MAG 274QF, if you prioritize the higher 2560 × 1440 resolution and a larger 27-inch screen. The X24’s 240Hz refresh rate is the higher of the two; the MAG 274QF provides more display pixels.

Q: Who is this monitor best suited for?

A: It suits PC gamers who want a compact 23.8-inch Full HD screen with a 240Hz refresh rate, Rapid IPS panel, and FreeSync. The trade-offs are 1080p resolution and a stand that adjusts for tilt only.

Q: Can I get 240Hz when I connect it to my laptop?

A: The monitor is rated for up to 240Hz and has DisplayPort 1.2a and HDMI 2.0b inputs. Reaching 240Hz also depends on whether the laptop’s graphics hardware and video output support 1920 × 1080 at that refresh rate; the provided specifications do not state the maximum refresh rate for each input.

Q: Can I mount this monitor on a wall or monitor arm?

A: Yes. It supports 100 × 100 mm VESA mounting. The included stand provides tilt adjustment only, so a compatible VESA mount can provide an alternative setup.

Q: Does it have built-in speakers?

A: Built-in speakers are not listed in the provided specifications. The monitor does list a headphone-out port, so plan to use headphones or separate speakers for audio.

Q: Is HDR a reason to choose the MSI MAG 245F X24?

A: Probably not by itself. The monitor is listed as HDR Ready, but Reddit owners have described its HDR effect as disappointing or worse than SDR. Consider it mainly for its 240Hz Full HD IPS panel, not for HDR.

Q: Does it have noticeable ghosting in fast-paced games?

A: One Reddit owner reported no noticeable ghosting after about two weeks, but that is limited user experience, not a guarantee for every unit or setting. The listed 0.5ms response time alone does not establish real-world motion performance.

Q: Are the colors good, or can they look off?

A: Reports vary: one owner praised the vivid colors compared with a laptop, while another described a yellowish appearance on their unit. Treat color impressions as potentially affected by settings or unit variation; the supplied specifications list 112% sRGB coverage.
