The STARTECH.COM SV211USB is a 2-port VGA/USB KVM switch that lets users control two compatible PCs with one monitor, keyboard, and mouse, making it a practical choice for people sharing desk peripherals between computers.
Recommended For
- People switching between two VGA-equipped desktop PCs at one workstation who want to share one monitor, USB keyboard, and mouse instead of keeping duplicate peripherals.
- Work-from-home users with a VGA work computer and personal PC who want to switch between them while keeping a single desk setup; a customer review specifically describes using it to share VGA peripherals in limited space.
- Users with a compatible VGA-and-USB Mac and Windows computer who want to control both from one keyboard, mouse, and VGA display; the product listing describes Mac and Windows support, and a customer review reports using it with a Mac mini and Windows PC.
- Fixed-desk users who prefer a compact, cable-integrated switch with a remote button or hotkey switching, rather than a larger KVM box with separate video cables.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- At a desk with two USB-equipped computers that both have VGA video, switch one monitor, keyboard, and mouse between them instead of keeping a separate set of peripherals for each.
- In a small office or home workspace, move between two compatible computers using the remote switch or keyboard hotkeys, without reaching behind the systems to reconnect peripherals.
- For IT work or troubleshooting older desktop PCs, use one VGA monitor and USB keyboard and mouse to access either computer, then switch control as needed.
- When desk space and cable clutter are concerns, keep the compact switch and its integrated computer cables at the workstation, with a wired remote button placed within easy reach.
- In a setup with a compatible Mac and PC, use the included switching software to select which computer controls the shared VGA monitor and USB peripherals.
