Pros: I have not yet been able to install the unit (see below). Quite possibly, it will work well once installed. It looks nice. My wife is easily able to move it from room to room, including over that one threshold that is about an inch high. The window kit comes with a 20" window unit that has two holes, one for the input hose and one for the exhaust. It also has two extension units which are adjustable. One is a maximum of about 9". and one is about 19" (thus about 48" maximum window size).
Cons: I have extreme heartburn with the window unit. I have two rooms I wish to cool at one time or another (thus the portable unit). Both have sideways sliding windows, one 36" tall and one 48" tall. The window kit fits nicely into the 48" window. When installed into the 36" window, half of the air intake is covered up by the adjustable panel. There is no feasible way to fix this problem with the supplied window kit. Here are the window openings which can be accommodated by the included window kit: * If you window is exactly 20", you can use the central unit with neither extension and all is well. * If it is between about 26" and 29", you can use the shorter extension unit with no problem. * If your window longer than about 38", you can use either the longer extension or both the longer and shorter with no problem. * If, however, your window opening is between about 29" and 38", the short unit is not long enough, and the long unit covers up part or all of one of the intake/exhaust holes (you could choose which one to cover up). Note that if I did not want to be able to move my portable A/C, I could use a hack saw to cut down the longer extension unit and get a fit for my smaller window.
Overall Review: My plan B will be to attempt to purchase a second window kit. I will use one in the 48" window. For the other, I will cut down the longer extension for the 36" window. I will, hopefully, report back on how well this works and how expensive it might be.
