Works great 11/15/2018 12:59:18 PM

Pros: -Had this card installed for 4 years on a Win 7 AMD Phenom machine with no issues.
-Running 2 RAID 5 arrays using WD Red drives.
-Upgraded from older dual RR1740's model and it recognized the arrays without any changes.
-Much cheaper than hardware RAID.

Cons: -Not hardware RAID.
-No BBU, so it's best to have the computer on a UPS to prevent corrupting the array.
-Transfer speeds could be higher.

Overall Review: -It has 2 x SFF-8087 Int. Mini-SAS ports not 8 SATA ports just like in the description.

Works great 9/5/2017 10:18:25 AM

Pros: Good performance, easy to use Web interface for management. Email notification of events is very nice. I bought this controller in February of 2013, and it's worked perfectly every day. I keep this machine on literally 24/7 and it's been a champ.

Cons: Honestly can't think of any cons.

Overall Review: Currently using this for 2 RAID6 sets comprised of 4 Seagate ST3000DM001 drives each, so 8 3TB drives total, allowing me 12TB of space. Performance is as good as it can be considering it's RAID6, but I like knowing that any 2 drives can fail within the array and my data is still available. Of course, RAID is not backup, and I keep a healthy rotation of backups both locally and offsite.

Great controller, no complaints. I had 1 drive fail and it handled it without issue. Popped in the replacement drive and its rebuilding now. Like I said in the pros, I really like the email notifications.

Great RAID 5 card on Linux 8/2/2017 7:29:05 PM

Pros: Card installs easy and software install is smooth. Running for 6, 8 and 9 years now on Linux Mint x64, openSuse and REL. Internal read speeds are blistering in RAID 5. Saturates both gigabit connections when transferring over LAN.

Cons: None at all but I have not run under Windblows.

Overall Review: People who leave bad reviews are doing it wrong. I have a few of these, some running for darn near 10 years without issue.

There is no redundancy in RAID - this card is a gimmick - its a joke - it isn't real RAID. 3/9/2017 10:52:38 AM

Pros: Cheap as dirt

Cons: It will fail. There is no support. You are more likely to get help from Russia while choking Putin than you are likely to receive any slight notion of support from High Point. They are the worst. They will end up costing you money because they don't even know how to make a quality product, let alone support it.

Direct from Highpoint support: desktop HDDs may cause this controller to become nonresponsive 9/6/2016 9:31:54 PM

Pros: There would be some, but all are negated by cons (example: easy install - negated by the fact that I have to yank it and find another card)

Cons: (direct from support): use of desktop HDDs may cause this controller to become nonresponsive.

Overall Review: Per ticket 23879 on Highpoint Global Support system, desktop HDDs may cause this controller to become nonresponsive.

I purchased two of these, and both would become nonresponsive under heavy load. Internal event logs within the card show NO issues. Disk checks within the web gui return NO issues. Array verification within the web gui returns NO issues. But as soon as there's heavy I/O for more than a few minutes, the controller becomes nonresponsive. To clarify what I mean by nonresponsive: Disk IO in the performance monitor suddenly drops precipitously, until it hits absolute zero, at which point the drive becomes unaccessible. Also at this point, trying to communicate with the controller via WebGUI is unsuccessful. It never returns to responsiveness until the PC is rebooted. Once rebooted, there are still NO reports of errors within the Highpoint WebGUI, and even after this verification or disk checks will be successful. However, looking at the windows error log, there are NUMEROUS instances of, "The driver for device \Device\Scsi\272x_1x1 detected a port timeout due to prolonged inactivity. All associated busses were reset in an effort to clear the condition.", alongside several "The device, \Device\Scsi\272x_1x1, did not respond within the timeout period.".

I submitted this issue to highpoint support, hoping for some guidance. Their response, in all it extensive and helpful glory, "As we know that this Toshiba HDD is for desktop environment and it is not suitable for RAID environment."

So. I must take their word for it. If you use a brand new, error free (per the card's own diagnostics) desktop hard drive, in an array that validates just fine (again per the card's own diagnostics), your controller may become unresponsive any time it sees a load.

I'm now on a mission. I am Johnny Appleseed, 6/30/2015 5:41:34 PM

Pros: none

Cons: I'm now on a mission. I am Johnny Appleseed, and my message is that any highpoint product - if you are running on linux - is going to leave you in the lurch, so badly you will be just as enraged as I am right now.

My rocketraid card - 2013 - has pathetically outdated drivers on their site. You can try to compile the 2012 driver software you can get from their site. When that does not work, you find forums on the 'net that provide help and even source patches to get you to kernel 3.10. When you fail even with those patches (say, on kernel 4.x on fedora 21), you will have no choice - you must try to get support from the vendor. There, they insist you enter your serial number. When you do this, they call it 'invaild' (not valid). You get THREE TRIES, and then you are completely done. Buy someone else's product and live without your server for a day or two.

There is no phone number, no further recourse. No way to email them at all.

AVOID Highpoint. It's insane to give them any of your money. One day, you too will be as enraged as I am right now. It's as certain as the sun rising.

Just does not work. 1/31/2015 12:55:26 PM

Pros: Worst fake raid ever. I don't mind fake raid, but it has to at least work. This thing fails as much as daily.

Cons: Highpoint support is basically worthless. THey try to blame the issues on any other thing... The drives, the weather, whatever. It doesn't matter that their drivers are spitting out errors in the event log that are not related to hardware.

Overall Review: The fact that it is software raid rather than hardware raid should meant the they can fix their issues, however they are not even trying. Their support may take a week or more to not answer a question. The answers usually are not related to the question or problem. U am thinking they have basic communications issues as well as lack of knowledge on their products.
