Pros: This drive is a direct swap for the 80 Gig Toshiba MK8026GAX that came with my notebook from the factory and is getting hard to find. Mounting and connection is identical, thickness the same, specs are basically identical except the Toshiba had a 16 MB cache and this one only has an 8 MB cache. Installation was a snap and the Mac recognized the drive as soon as I went to partition it. My old drive had been clicking for some time - sounded like something caught in a cooling fan - and S.M.A.R.T. was indicating impending failure. I backed up my user space and ordered this Hitachi just in time. One day later the Mac refused to boot. Got this drive, installed, partitioned, and reinstalled OSX, and then restored my personal files. My Mac lives again. Also, S.M.A.R.T. is imbedded with this drive too so my Mac reports drive status just like it did before. So far I am very happy with this drive.
Cons: It's not it's fault but compared with the drive it replaced, it has only half the cache. But honestly, I haven't noticed a bit of difference. My Mac seems just as snappy as before.
Overall Review: I don't have much time on it to know for sure but in watching a DVD last night, overall notebook battery life seemed to last longer than it used to. Newegg shipped the same day, well packaged. Thanks Newegg!
