Pros: -Great LG IPS based panel, similar to the one in the iMac -Outstanding 8-bit Color -Extremely Bright (Can be bad to some) -No speakers (Can be bad to some) -OSD OMGGGG!!!! I'm new to the whole high end monitor thing, I have never spent more than 400 on a screen before this one, but the OSD is AMAZING. It is highly customizable with tons of in Depth Features. POWER LIGHT DISABLE IS FRIGGIN SWEET. -CABLE MANAGEMENT. Has some impressive cable management built into the stand (granted you don't have too much plugged into it) and built into the monitor for a webcam or a mic that would clam onto the top. -INPUTS. This thing has a ton of inputs, 2xDVI, HDMI, DP, YPbPr, Composite, S-Vid, and a 6 port USB hub!!! -High Quality Stand. Not anything insane, but does everything you would want in a stand and even comes with a little tray for trash to collect. -PIP .Pretty cool feature if you have a cable box hooked up, customizable positions and size, as well as POP (side by side).
Cons: -The PIP is ANALOG ONLY. In the OSD you can change b/w only component, s-video, and composite. I haven't checked to see if you can have PIP for an analog while using an analog. -GLOW. In low light situations, darks on the screen can have a glow on them when viewed from semi-extreme angles. This is the difference b/w this one and a 1000 dollar NEC. -GAMING. (not really a CON) I gamed Halo 3 for about 4 hours tonight on this thing to give it a good test drive. The size/brightness/color depth of this monitor make it almost an unfair advantage against others with crappier/smaller screens. Only problem I can see is that the response time is a little bit more laggy than in TN based panels, not a huge difference but a little noticeable. -SETUP. Out of the box it's picture isn't that great. First thing you need to do is switch the Color to Custom and leave it or tweak it a tiny bit, this will really bring out the colors and brightness. Then turn contrast/brightness down a tad. Suits m
Overall Review: I am coming from a Viewsonic 20" with an MVA panel. After a few weeks of comparing the different 24" TN based models made by Acer, Asus, whoeverelse, I found all of them to be extremely disappointing in person. TN panels of this size are terrible at delivering consistent lighting and color throughout the screen. It's tolerable on smaller screens (I work on two 19" TN panels at work), but on a screen this size it's hard to find a good spot where the entire screen looks good. So I finally decided to drop down the extra dough to get an IPS based panel and so far I don't regret it. You get what you pay for I highly recommend anyone who is on the fence about buying an IPS vs. a TN at 24" to just go for it. It's not worth spending 300 bucks only to leave yourself unsatisfied with a TN panel. Spend twice the amount and get twice the benefit.
