Pros: its fast , I put win 7 pro on it and everything works fine

Cons: sometimes when i turn it on it doesn't show picture on the screen its just black,
but when I plug in power cable and reboot it its fine,
it did it 3 times so far so i don't know ,

.. I bought this laptop in 2011, today is 9/1/2016 and I still have it .. I re-formatted it, installed new windows, added more RAM .. still runs great ... battery is is bad but, hey after 5 + years ... not bad

Overall Review: for the money its great

Got Ripped Off 9/22/2012 4:29:59 PM

Pros: It was $400

Cons: Stopped working in 6 months. I know it was re-certified, but when I opened it up, there were ground wires hanging off and busted solder. This is a joke.

Great Computer 8/31/2012 6:55:36 AM

Pros: Lightweight, Fast, great performance, WLAN, Fingerprint security

Cons: Very low sound, no number pad, touchpad can take some getting used to.

Overall Review: This was a great computer. I say WAS because mine was recently stolen >:^( I had no complaints with it, except the low sound. I'd want to plug in a good set of peripheral speakers or something whenever streaming video from my media server. Touchpad took some getting used to, but other than that, I had no complaints other than the minor upgrades I could have sought out: Blu-ray (that's about it). Great piece of equipment. Just don't drop it!!! The new aluminum shells dent quickly.

Great laptop for the price 5/10/2012 11:57:24 PM

Pros: Battery life is decent (3-4 hours depending on what you're doing), good quality webcam, not terrible for gaming and perfect for basic web surfing and multimedia (music, movies, etc.) I've had this laptop for over a year and it's made it through several airports unscathed (as a carry-on, of course!)

Cons: The microphone quality isn't very good. Also, the built-in speakers are pointing downwards and aren't that loud even at max volume. You really have to hang the front of it off the edge of something to hear even half way decently. A good headset takes care of both of these though. Additionally, the touchpad doesn't handle scrolling or click-dragging very well.

Overall Review: Picked this up in Feb. 2011 and so far no hardware problems whatsoever. Cons listed above only knock one egg off, overall I have gotten good use out of this. I'm typing this review on it!

Follow up review 8/10/2011 10:25:43 PM

Pros: Still a great laptop. Upgraded it to 8gb G.skill ram and it runs amazingly. Running the Win7 that came with it, dual booted with Slackware Linux. Still haven't tried to run games on it. But I'm sure the HD 4250 can run things at low/moderate settings.

Cons: The ethernet stopped working. Haven't had this thing 5 months and poof. It [the ethernet light] just flashes and doesn't show up in linux with the lspci -v command or windows in dev mgr. It's a shame considering I haven't gotten past the hardware wifi switch issue yet (rfkill) so no wifi.

Overall Review: I know this thing is discontinued now. But just leaving this update for anyone in the future who comes across one of these and wants to know how it is.

Going to try to re-solder the ethernet pins to the mobo if the warranty doesn't cover it..which i highly doubt it does. But I'll at least ask first..

So far so good. 5/9/2011 4:02:57 PM

Pros: The processor pretty fast. It scores a 6.4 on the "Windows 7 Experience" rating, which isn't bad considering it is a notebook. My personal notebook has a 2.66ghz i5 in it and it scores a 6.6, so I think that is a pretty good rating for this chip.

The keyboard's keys are oddly placed, it just takes some getting used to.

There is seriously not a scratch on it. It looks brand new. I ran a full diagnostic (Mobo, Proc, RAM, HDD) on the unit out of the box and everything passed and looked good. The unit was even cool to the touch after all that. Not bad cooling at all.

The aluminum finish is awesome. I know that it's going to be a pretty durable unit, so it would be perfect for a college student or business person.

For the more techy nerds, the eSata and USB 3 are awesome. eSata transfer rates are off the hook (on a Seagate Constellation Ext they are upwards of 50 - 80mb/s). Gigabit ethernet is awesome too if you're in to the whole network thing.

Cons: I personally do not like the touchpad. There are two reasons. One is that the left and right click button are too far spaced apart. I'm sure over time I would get used to this, but initially, it's annoying. The second part is still the touchpad, and with that right click, you basically have to move all the way to the extreme right of the right click button to make it work. Just an annoyance I guess, and I know I would get used to it with time (or else just get a mouse).

Something else that I think I think is a con is the bloat that comes on this unit. I'm not docking any eggs for it (because every single notebook you'd buy has this junk on it), but it gets worse every time I get a new notebook. I usually just reformat them right after I run the diagnostic because I can't stand that junk. That would be my suggestion to anyone who hates bloat.

Overall Review: This does not have a 10 key. Sorry people. If you want a 10 key, get a 700 - 1000$ 17" notebook. This is built to balance portability and performance. There are some 15.6 inchers out there have a 10 key, but I think you'd end up paying more for them. This is a budget refurb, despite how how nice it is.

I don't have any REAL problem with it, as in manufacturer defects or issues. The only issues really are design flaws (touchpad) and the junk that HP puts on these to subsidize their price.

You people looking for a notebook with 1000$ worth of features for 500$ are going to be disappointed no matter what though.

HP needs to step up their refurb efforts! 5/8/2011 3:33:56 PM

Pros: Newegg issued me a return UPS label without any hassle. It's being returned via UPS ground from Florida to Cali so it will be a while before I have my order in hand.. no money out of pocket from me for HP's mistake so that is a plus. (Newegg: B; could have bumped up shipping to 3-day for a faster turn around time)

Cons: When I first powered on the laptop, I immediately noticed a dead pixel on the screen. An easily avoidable defect which HP should have caught during the refurb process. I got to play around with it for a bit and all other aspects of the unit seemed up to par. The keyboard is going to take some time to get used to though due to the placement of the keys though. After looking at some of these other recent negative reviews, HP definitely needs to tighten up! (HP: D; poor refurb job)

Great Buy, Great Price 5/5/2011 9:47:02 PM

Pros: Runs everything I need it to, no lag when running more than a few applications at once. Screen is beautiful, and the fingerprint reader is a great touch. I wouldn't consider this a gaming machine by any means, but I run Left 4 Dead 2 with high res/detail with no problems. This machine, after 3 months, has done everything I need it to with no issues.

Cons: I still can't get used to not having a number pad, the touch pad isn't the greatest (I use a mouse anyway so no issue) and some of the HP ware sucks but can be removed.

Overall Review: Would recommend this to anyone, PC is recertified but was sparkling new, no scratches or use marks. Great buy.
