Pros: - Thin, aside from the bulge at the bottom edge where the buttons are - IPS display, no color blowout when you look at it from extreme angles. - Thin bezels: very thin non-display order around the sides and top. - 2 HDMI ports and a VGA port - Ease of switching inputs. Just press any button (except the power button) then press the input button until you've cycled to the input you want. - Metal stand: 2 piece metal stand, feels quite sturdy. - Anti-glare coating: It's not the standard matte "skin" that you'd find on these "bezel-less" type of monitors. It's a bit more reflective, but it adds less "haze" than the standard matte "skin"
Cons: - Could use more/different ports. DisplayPort or DVI - Could use a height adjustment, but that may be asking for a pony at this price range. - Lacks VESA mounting capability, but again, asking for a pony here considering how thin it is. - Needed to fiddle a bit with the color and gamma settings out of the box. - Blacks are not quite as black as I'd want, but much better than cheapo TN panels
Overall Review: This monitor is a pretty good example of an entry level 27" IPS monitor. The only major gripes I have is with the color accuracy and gamma settings, but I'm not a digital artist with fancy color calibration gear. I could also be badly biased by the recent batch of AOC monitors that have REALLY blown out color. The stand, despite lacking height adjustment, is metal, sturdy and has no flex. It has 3 inputs, 2 HDMI and 1 VGA One of the truly nice features of this monitor to note is ease of changing input. Just 1 button cycles through the different inputs and the input number and type is displayed on screen for a few seconds. No navigating a menu just to change the input. This one feature alone, stands this monitor out from the crowd.
Pros: Super thin, great aesthetics. VGA and (2) HDMI. Simple menus system. Solid metal stand not plastic, so it should last a long time and stay put! No dead pixels! Looks great with the games that I play. Video that I render from my DJI Phantom 3 (1080/60fps) looks GREAT on this monitor. Much better than my older Dell, which I still think looks good. This picture is just much crisper on this HP. I personally like the glossy screen, I know that some do not, so make a note of that. Over all, I think this would make a good general purpose monitor for small off or home office, good for a gaming pc or second LCD (for duals). Out of the box I was pleased with how well it seemed to be calibrated from the factory. It just looks good!
Cons: HP, come on! The inputs!? VGA? I don't care who is making a monitor today, get rid of VGA, give use Display port, USB-C, DVI and HDMI. And then you're DONE you have everything covered. I guess HP thinks that there might be a large crowd using VGA still, but I think that most people are going to have a newer port to use. I do not like that the monitor cannot adjust height. So, it might not cut it, if you're going to use it all day long (think, office environment). Tilt range is not that great either, but I do not think that it would be a deal breaker for anyone. It would be nice if there was an audio pass through or some kind of speaker bar. I really like that most Dell monitors can get a speaker bar. It's all you need for a work environment or just a general family PC environment. Makes for one less thing cluttering up the desk. There is no VESA mount. So you cannot hang this off a custom stand. Top resolution is 1920x1080 and looks mint, but if you are working with 4K video or need to do super high end design work in CAD, this isn't your monitor.
Overall Review: Listen, for the price, this is a GREAT entry level IPS display. It looks modern it has a decent price tag, performs well and will leave most people happy with the purchase. If you Are in need of a monitor that supports much higher resolution, than this one isn't it. But for most people, this is a great 27 inch monitor. I wonder if it comes in black? The ports kind of make me angry, but most people will be able to make it work, or you could get a cheap converter cable if need be. The non-VESA mount kind of stinks, but otherwise, this is a GREAT monitor for the price and it's 27 inches! That's BIG! The price is great too! I think HP will not have trouble selling these monitors at all! Perfect for 98% of computer users out there! Even with the port fiasco I still think this a 5 star monitor because of the value and how sharp and crisp the picture is!
Pros: The first thing I noticed upon unpacking this monitor is that the build quality is surprisingly nice. The base is actually metal, not metal-tone plastic. The fit and finish is very good overall. This monitor offers a very nice monitor-to-bezel ratio, meaning there is very little "frame" that is not part of the actual display around the display. This means minimal desk space wasted, and a more pleasing overall workspace in multi-monitor environments. The monitor is exceptionally thin overall. It is very stable on its base and looks very good from all sides, including from behind. The controls are responsive and unobtrusive. A HDMI cable is thoughtfully included. The backlight is extremely bright, I found the 65% brightness level to be ideal even with a window right beside the monitor. Contrast and color reproduction are both quite good. The factor calibration was passable, and the monitor took a custom calibration well, responding predictably and incrementally to changes in white point and gamma. This was impressive to me on a monitor at this pricepoint, as many displays get quite unpredictable once you move them away from their default settings. The black point is quite decent overall, and great given the pricepoint. Reproduction is crisp and bright across the display, with no noticeable falloff or bleed at the edges. This being a IPS display, viewing angles are great. Overall, it's a very, very strong showing, if the features are right for you.
Cons: The most important drawbacks to this monitor are in terms of feature set, so not so much failings in execution so much as design decisions. Some users will find these to be dealbreakers, others won't care in the least. This monitor lacks a height adjustment and has a fairly limited tilt range. There is also no rotational adjustment, rotation is adjusted by moving the entire base. The included inputs are VGA and HDMI. I tried it using a DVI to HDMI adapter and also a Mini Dispayport to HDMI adapter and had no issues with either configuration, but buyers without HDMI or VGA outputs should be aware that they will need to purchase an adapter. Also notably absent is a VESA mount plate, so this monitor cannot be wall or arm mounted. Probably the biggest con here is the resolution. This display tops out at 1920x1080. If that's what you're after, this is a great choice. But this is a rather low maximum resolution for a 27" monitor. 1920x1080 is excellent for general-purpose use, and many users will appreciate the fact that 12 point type on this display is about 1/8" tall, roughly the same size as it would be printed out. But if your application for this display is software tools with lots of menus, timelines, various windows, and so forth, you will be wishing for more screen real estate. Gamers, photographers, HD video folks, and others who are sensitive to resolution will surely run into this issue as well. Microsoft Office is a joy on this display, but Adobe Photoshop is very cramped, and more complex 3D modeling and video postproduction applications are virtually unusable. While the monitor responded nicely to tweaks to the gamma and white balance, contrast adjustments were a bit wonky, introducing shifts in white point as well. Finally, this monitor suffers from the great plague Apple unleashed onto the monitor world: glossiness. This kills me. A monitor is a device meant to project a digital image. Glossy means capable of transmitting reflections. Reflections make the image harder to see. I suppose it looks nicer off, since people like shiny things, but in actual use it is utterly self-defeating. At least this display isn't as bad as others I have seen in this regard.
Overall Review: If you don't care about height adjustment, don't plan to wall mount it, and are happy with 1920x1080, I recommend this display wholeheartedly. While not perfect, at this pricepoint this monitor is a true standout. Whether or not that 1920x1080 resolution works for you will depend on what you do with your computer. I am accustomed to running my 27" displays at 2560x1440, and while evaluating this display I found that I could not deal with the resolution drop. My wife, on the other hand, absolutely adores it. This resolution is perfectly suited to the email, spreadsheet, and database work she does. In terms of image and color reproduction, this monitor hangs with displays two or three times its price, and looks great doing it.
Pros: I’m a monitor guy. I have three flagship monitors that cost about $1,500 each. So I’d like to say I know a thing or two about monitors. Well, on paper this seems pretty good. It’s IPS so it’s good for fair photo editing and graphic design and color accuracy. Modern IPS are fine for causal gamers as well. (I didn’t notice any lag or distracting ghosting while gaming) I think it’s a pretty awesome bargin. Besides being super thin, it has a metal Stand is so much better than plastic. It’s thin so it uses a power brick. Fine. @ 81 DPI/PPI it’s getting to the point that any larger it’l get too pixilated for most users. The colors are good and viewing angles are excellent, typical IPS. You can adjust the tilt angle only. The Matt screen is so much nicer than the glossy finish. It is indeed thin, about 1/4” inch.
Cons: Why did you put 2 HDMI or a VGA port instead of a DVI port? Some people’s kids. No adjusting up or down. No Vesa mounts. For this price, those shouldn’t be expected. No speakers.
Overall Review: When people ask for my advice, if you like to occasionally game, I’d say get three of these than a single 4K monitor anyday. 3 monitors creates a much more immersive experience than a single one. Sort of wraps around you. And with bezels thin, it works well. More importantly, it has 2 HDMI ports so it has enough digital ports so they can all be plugged in digitally (DVI to HDMI or DP to HDMI & straight HDMI). I think this is the perfect size, and price for most casual non-enthusiasts users who want good colors and a pretty monitor. Get one. Or three :)
Pros: Out of the box this is an impressive monitor with excellent fit and finish. It came with an HDMI cable, which was nice since B&M stores beat you up if you have to buy one, selling this $5 cable (at the ‘egg) for $20 to $100. If you are replacing a 22 inch monitor, which seems to be about what the average user has, in my experience, you will be blown away by this huge work area. With such a large desktop area it is easy to have 2 or more windows open at once. I am using this monitor to replace a 4-year old 27 ½ inch monitor. Although I gave up ½ inch, the screen seems about the same size (naturally) plus it seems to take up far less than half the space on my desk. This is because the monitor itself is much thinner (about 1/3 the thickness) of my older monitor. Naturally the resulting lack of bulk requires a stand with a much smaller footprint. The stand itself is metal so the extra weight adds to the stability of the monitor. The virtually bezel-less viewing area has a fresh and clean look. The 1920 x 1080 picture itself is crisp as you would expect at this resolution and the surface is glass-like yet glare-resistant. This monitor has 2 HDMI input and 1 legacy D-sub, 15 pin input. Some newer desktop tower models that have only HDMI output and many new laptops have only HDMI out.
Cons: I have really no significant issues with this monitor at this price point, but since there is this “Cons” section I’ll mention a couple of things that might be negatives for some users. The power cord is not standard, and includes a “wall wart”. This allows for a thinner panel, I’m sure. This is not a touch screen; I will not buy a laptop without a touch screen but I don’t really consider that a negative for a 27 inch desktop monitor. It is much easier just to use the mouse when you are sitting at a desk. Although this is a reduced glare monitor, reflection could be an issue under some conditions. A satin finish would substantially reduce this problem, at the expense of picture sharpness. Intense gamers might want to opt for a monitor with a higher refresh rate than 60 Hz. This monitor does not have speakers, which would be a negative for those who just want sound out, without any consideration for sound quality. Users loath to spend $20+ for infinitely higher quality sound than that provided by most monitors that contain speakers might be disappointed. But I figure who needs that extra bulk for not-very-good sound? I would have liked digital sound out on this HDMI monitor, since that would make it easier to use external speakers in some system configurations.
Overall Review: This is not the latest and greatest 4k monitor; if that’s what you need you will have to pay at least twice as much. This monitor is a very decent quality entry level 27" IPS monitor that would serve most users well, i.e. productivity software such as Office. If you are investing in a new tower, consider spending a few extra dollars for a quality monitor such as this HP 27er, if you have the space. I promise you will never look back.
Pros: this thing is huge compared to the 23 inch monitor I have been using and for the price it has some really awesome features such as the bezel is almost non exsistant and the monitor is really the thinnest I have seen it has a 7ms gtg response which is pretty good for a panel this big and the picture looks really good great color duplication and it has an easy to use menu for setup and tweeking the color how you want it and I personally love the glossy screen I am not a fan of the matte finish monitors it makes it hard to see at certain angles but this you can see at every angle over all I really enjoy this monitor and at this price for it size and feature you can not go wrong
Cons: there are a few cons I don't like that it doesn't have built in speakers or an audio output to hook some up to the monitor externally. it has 2 hdmi inputs but no audio output. so for those people looking to hook up an xbox or ps4 or some other device that produces audio this wouldn't be a good monitor for you because you could only wear some sort of headset for your audio
Overall Review: to be honest this monitor is perfect in almost every way with the exception of having no audio output of any kind. there are those out there who want higher resolutions than 1920 x 1080 and they could have made this monitor in a higher resolution but I don't think it was needed 1920x1080 is perfect for the every day user to game on, surf the web and stream any kind of content you want including blue ray
Pros: I personally think this monitor looks fantastic. For $189 you simply can’t go wrong. Just buy it!
Cons: Only cons I can think is that this isn’t capable of be mounted and is HDMI only, no display port. Those are the only cons. Other than that for $189 I’m a happy camper.
Pros: • Great price • No stuck/hot pixels • Colors are excellent right out of the box • Extremely thin, but reasonably sturdy • Metal base • Assembles quick and easy • Small desktop footprint for a monitor of this size • Saw no tearing in FPS games • Great viewing angles
Cons: • Lose the VGA and add a DVI • No VESA mounting option (in case you wanted to put it on a swing-out arm, etc.) • Blacks are a little light
Overall Review: Only good things with the 27er. Classy looking metal base with hidden bezels will look great on any desk. No tools required for assembly. Some people will complain about a power brick (not sure why anyone cares about that) but it’s easily stashed behind something on your desk. Very small footprint for a 27” screen leaves plenty of desk real estate available for the rest of your setup. Not sure why they still include a VGA port (output looks terrible on a screen this size at 1080p) but people will appreciate the dual HDMI ports (I would prefer a DVI port in place of the useless VGA port). Monitor driver disc was included, but since I don’t use optical drives anymore, I was pleased to locate the downloads easily enough at HP’s site. Monitor driver wasn’t needed for use, but I always use them if available. You will see a lot of reviews citing monitors with this slow of refresh rate as not being good for FPS gaming – but no issues here whatsoever. Over a two-week period, I played hours of Black Ops III, Doom multiplayer, Battlefront, Overwatch, and Shadow of Mordor. System had SLI GTX 780’s with all of the visuals maxed out. No screen tearing, no ghosting, nothing that you hear people complain about on “slower” monitors. I normally run screens that refresh at 1ms and 5ms (three desks in my room) and my eyes saw no difference. I think a lot of people buy into the “faster must be better”, and maybe it is at some level, but nothing that I could see. Another over-hyped attribute would be contrast ratio. One of those settings with no industry standard. The 1000:1 is a lot lower than what I’m used to seeing, but everything looks great. Good balance between blacks and maintaining detail in the brighter areas. Colors were great out of the box, and zero light bleed along the edges. No stuck pixels, no flashers, honestly speaking, probably the best monitor experience that I’ve ever had. People will complain about “seeing the pixels” but know what you’re getting into. You can see pixels at 1080p on a 24” screen, so you KNOW it will happen as the size increases. While 1440p would obviously look cleaner/sharper, you’ll also be paying a lot more money. Again, not an issue for me, and definitely not an issue playing games, as you’re constantly moving. The HP 27er gives you everything that you could want at around $200 measly dollars. Doesn’t get much better than this. Highly recommended!!
