HP TouchSmart tx2-1270us AMD Turion X2 RM-75 (2.20 GHz) 4 GB Memory 12.1" 1280 x 800 Tablet PC Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

Pros: Keyboard is amazingly easy to use, when needed. The pen is just plain wonderful. Surprisingly decent sound. Not too kludgy once the bloatware is removed, even with Vista. I can't wait to put Windows 7 on it. The handwriting recognition is close to psychic.

Cons: Heat could turn out to be an issue. I will definitely be getting a chill mat. Naturally, it has a ton of bloatware that needs to be uninstalled, but almost all "store-bought" computers do. Battery life could be better. The fingerprint reader doesn't seem to like my fingers. The included voice recognition leaves a something to be desired, but I guess that's why we have Nuance out there.

Overall Review: I was fully prepared to hate this machine and send it back. However, I'm in love with it. It does everything I've wanted. It's small enough that I was able to buy a purse that I can carry it in, but still large enough so that the screen is easy to read. I can readily envision it simply replacing my trusty little PDA. I got it because I needed a tablet for design work, and what I've been able to do with it just playing around for a couple of days amazes me. I don't even have my "good" software installed yet. CAVEAT: It has been my experience with other products that HP's customer service sucks. That is one of the reasons I was very reluctant to order this machine. I really hope I won't need to deal with them over this computer.

Pros: When I purchased this tablet I was expecting to use it as a Drawing/Image Editing pad. It can do so much more. It accually runs most of my games well (medium high settings), and runs Maya 2010 without any problems.

Cons: As many have stated before, Comes with Vista and Bloatware. Just Put a fresh copy of Windows 7 on it and you'll be happy as can be. The digitizer works good, but is NOT at this time compatible for pressure with adobe software. (would give it 4.5 eggs if possible for these con's but not enough of a problem to rate it down to 4 eggs)

Overall Review: First thing you should do is upgrade to Windows 7 If your wanting to sketch/draw I would highly recomend Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 2010 as it runs well and works great with the n-trig digitizer. Can get very warm, but as long as you set it on a surface when using it (either a table, or a board accross your lap) you shouldn't have any problem!

Overall Review: I have now had occasion to contact HP for support on this machine. There was an incompatibility between my bluetooth adapter drivers and the quick launch button software that cause an annoying error message (but appeared to have no impact on functionality). I used the live chat support option and was extremely pleased with the support I received. The tech did not treat me like an idiot, and he stuck it out for the three hours it took to actually solve the issue. I don't know if I merely got lucky, or if HP has changed their ways. I sincerely hope it's the latter.

Pros: Not many. It has an excellent design and the conversion from a laptop to a tablet is excellent.

Cons: Plenty. First is the BLOATWARE, it is loaded up. It will take you at least an hour to get it uninstalled. Second, performance, it is terrible, the hard drive is constanly working all the time with no end in sight. Third, HOT!!! The fan is constantly working to attempt to keep up. Fourth, out of box the processor is constantly in use, no idle time.

Overall Review: I have been working on computers for years and this is without a doubt the worst machine for performance I have ever unboxed. Perhaps it is the AMD processor or the 5400rpm hard drive. Either way it is not a performer and I think most will be upset or would be upset if they knew what they could get elsewhere for the money.

Pros: Design. This tablet is designed well and looks great. The display is nice and it is easy to use.

Cons: First, BLOTWARE, it is loaded down with tons HP software and junk that you do not need. Second, SLOW. Even with the BLOATWARE uninstalled and the HP software disabled it still works the hard drive to death for about 5mins at login. Third, HOT. The poor little fan works all the time attempting to keep up. Fourth, the display does not rotate views properly when changing to tablet mode. I could go on and on....

Overall Review: While it may look nice, this tablet is not a good buy for the money. I have to say this is the first item I have ever purchased from Newegg and been dissatisfied but this is a big one. I personally recommend researching other laptops and tablets as you willnot be satisfied with this one at all. Perhaps it is the 500GB 5400 RPM SATA150 drive or the AMD processor but either way the performance is terrible, even for surfing the internet.

Pros: Once you install windows 7 on this laptop it really speeds up ALOT.

Cons: With Vista installed, its just super slow, if you add antivirus you must as well kill your self because that makes it even slower.

Overall Review: Buy Windows 7 and install it. You will be very pleased :)

Pros: The tx2-1270us has good HD space; The screen has a nice finish; if you use a screen protector, the pen will still function just fine after a re calibration (the Lattitude XT had trouble with this); the speakers are fairly good quality as is the general construction save for the hinge joint to the screen; Windows 7 allows the same functionality as the Vista drivers with which the laptop comes bundled, but the media functions do not work; the stylus works well for OneNote and other input programs, but after a few weeks the screen needs to be calibrated again for precision.

Cons: The laptop runs too hot to place on your lap during graphically intense programs (by intense, I mean Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, etc.) and the temperature gets dangerously hot during many games on low settings. The Tx1000 was discontinued due to board melting and graphical failure and the entire laptop failed after 18 months on average (take a look at the HP forums after you google (TX1000). The tx2 does seem to improve upon its faulty predecessor, but a tablet that runs out of battery at an hour and a half of nominal work use and becomes too hot to put on your lap after twenty minutes isn't worth nearly $900

Overall Review: HP is hit and miss on small laptops it seems, but here the finish and the number and quality of the features just aren't enough to make up for poor cooling and CPU/onboard GPU ventilation. The fan remains on constantly and can't handle the heat load well at all. Of course, each laptop has its own gremlins, but given the dubious history of the tx line, I would suggest looking for another model. If you really need a tablet, and you want to keep this laptop on desk or cooler, then you will like the screen and the stylus functions. If however you want to use this for gaming or heavy productivity software, the novelty of the screen simply isn't worth it.

Pros: (see other thoughts) 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD for $850? This tablet is excellent. I have used windows journal and it trained to my handwriting perfectly. after the bloatware is removed and with some modification it will run pretty lean and very responsive. The graphics aren't the best but the touch options are awesome (even better when windows 7 comes out)

Cons: The only problems are the tons of HP Bloatware (which I had to remove as the technician at my company) and windows vista. Vista is a hog but very soon windows 7 will hit the shelves and bring this tablet to its full potential.
