Generally if the RAM fits in your motherboard it will work with your CPU. unless you've cobbled together a board where you've installed parts yourself with a soldering gun you should have no worries.

RAM is always downward compatible. Also your CPU can't make your RAM overclock (over perform) unless you tell it to. Just make sure it's paired correctly and in the right slots and you should be fine

Not even close.  If you have the original motherboard, it utilizes DDR2 RAM.  It would be cheaper  for you to replace with a newer mb, cpu, and ram than buy the DDR2 RAM alone.

This may not be correct, but I'm assuming the "R" in the model number you're referring to simply means that its in red.

If you are running a dual to a quad channel, it is your best bet to get the same memory. That way everything is compatible and works correctly. Always get enough to run dual or quad channel ie 2 stick or 4. If you don't the system will have problems reconciling and utilizing the RAM. Also something to keep in mind is to get the same size RAM ie 4 sticks of 8GB and not 2 sticks of 8GB and 2 sticks of 4GB. Hope this helps.

No!!  This is desktop RAM...You need to look up your desk specificiations and determine what series of RAM your laptop takes DDR, DDR2, DDR3 and then look up laptop RAM that matches it.

No ~ just the color of the heat-spreader/shim. You can verify this on the kingston product comparison "thing" by typing the two model numbers into Google.

I'm assuming this is single channel since it comes as one stick. What's the difference between single and dual channel and will it really be noticeable running with an AMD A10 APU?

Yes its single channel. The difference between single and dual channel is dual channel can handle more ram cards at a faster speed. I personally have single channel on my box and I don't notice much of a speed difference.

I ordered the ASUS z87-A in a combo pack and it  came with a free stick of this. The bundle also  came with another stick of ram which is HyperX Savage 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model HX316C9SR/8. Are the even compatible to run together? If not why am I being shipped them both in the same bundle?

The memory runs at different speeds so if you run them together your bios will slow the HyperX Fury down to the speed the Savage runs at .
