Since 2012, the Raspberry Pi has been helping creative computer scientists make some really interesting projects. Everything from robots to complete home automation systems are possible with the micro-computer and hundreds of tutorials are available online. If you’ve been wanting to jump on board the Raspberry Pi bandwagon, then there’s never been a better time.

One of the problems first-time Pi-owners encounter is selecting their first project. With so many to choose from, selecting the right one can be a daunting task. Potential owners are often intimidated by the coding aspect of Raspberry Pi and don’t even bother starting their project. Fortunately for these people, I’ve compiled a short list of the three best projects for beginners.

All of these projects can be completed in one weekend and won’t cost you much money. And, if you don’t have a Raspberry Pi yet, we have Model B on sale right now at 24% off. Stop making excuses and start making some cool stuff!

Top Three Raspberry Pi Projects for Beginners:

SnapCamera

The SnapCamera is one of the easiest projects you can create with a Raspberry Pi because it doesn’t require you to connect a monitor, keyboard, or mouse. All you need to do is attach a camera module and use your PiFace Display to control a bunch of neat features like timelapse and video mode. The SnapCamera has many functions that are available on digital cameras, but makes taking pictures fun!

Pandora Jukebox

Many people listen to Pandora but not everyone has their own streaming jukebox. With a Raspberry Pi you’ll be able to create a standalone Pandora streamer for less than you would spend on a stereo. The best part is you’ll also be able to use this device as an Airplay receiver when you’re not using Pandora. This means you can you stream audiovisual content from any iOS device!

Arcade Coffee Table

Why have an ordinary coffee table when you can have a full-fledged media device in the center of your living room? This arcade coffee table is similar to traditional arcade cocktail cabinet with one major difference: You can do more than just play video games. With a Raspberry Pi controlling the action, you can use the LCD monitor to surf the web, write an e-mail, or display family photos. Best of all, you can still place your coffee mug on top of it!

And there you have it! Three great projects that anyone can do with a Raspberry Pi. All it takes is a little patience, ingenuity, and a revolutionary credit-card-sized PC.
