Unlike Apple products like the iPad or iPhone, a lot of the most important improvements to computing take place incrementally and without a lot of fanfare. For instance, Intel has recently announced the release of its 3rd-generation Core processor, aka Ivy Bridge.intel ivy bridge

So what can you expect with Intel’s new 3rd generation processor? Here are a few highlights of its key features:

  • Tri-gate transistor technology – Intel’s new CPU is the first processor developed on a 22nm manufacturing process that uses 3D tri-gate transistor technology. This allows for better performance while consuming less power.
  • Improved graphics – The new processor delivers up to two times better 3D graphics performance. Computer games, native video generation and other kinds of HD images will render not only faster, but can appear in much higher resolutions.
  • Increased security – Intel’s 3rd generation processor adds two security features, Intel OS Guard and Intel Secure Key, that offer anti-theft and identity protection technology.

Ultrabooks, laptops, PCs, and all-in-one PCs that are based on the new CPU will be available in the coming months. In the meantime, for those of you looking to get your hands on the 3rd generation Intel Core processor itself, Newegg.com will have them in stock on Sunday, April 29 so check back then!
