A Week-In Review

Pros: - Incredible cost per GB
- Came packed well
- Intel reliability
- Goes on sale often

Cons: - Gold contacts on drive connections is missing, maybe not full 4x?

Other Thoughts: Really, I can't find a flaw with this drive. However did find a flaw with the laptop upgrading it.

If you have an Acer Predator Helios 500 AMD version, and want to populate the second slot with this drive, it will not boot. The original drive is a 256gb NVMe drive, 3200mb/s read and 3200mb/s writes (this info will be used later). I figured I could keep that faster drive in for boot and this for secondary fast gaming storage.

BIOS didn't pick it up. Drive 0 was the 256gb one, drive 2 was my SATA one. So I swapped in this 2TB one in place of the 256gb one and moved it to the empty slot. It booted but didn't see the 256gb drive but did see the 2TB drive. So I just gave up trying and installed Windows fresh in this drive and will investigate the other slot later.

The computer, feels just as responsive as the old drive with double the write and read speeds. I copied games from the SATA SSD to this drive, about 300gb worth to see if it throttled, and it didn't. My laptop has a big copper heat sink for this drive so I think that, and it'll easily keep up with the transfer speed of an older SATA SSD just fine.

So if you got a PC or especially laptop that has multiple NVMe slots, check your compatibility if you plan to use this as a secondary drive. However its no slouch as a primary drive for a gaming PC.

All in all, I'm happy with it!

Fast!

Pros: -Very fast.
-2TB SSD!
-Price
-Boots my OS in seconds.

Cons: -Runs hot under large transfers. This is not its fault though, thats just how all M.2 drives are. Normal operation temps are fine.

Work on first boot - Great value at time of purchase

Pros: * Purchased with small email sale code
* Huge size for a boot and favorite games drive
* Clean Win 10 Pro install with just Mobo and GPU software installed take about 10 seconds to boot.

Cons: * None so far

Other Thoughts: * There are better/faster M.2 available, but the size/price/performance could not be beat at time of purchase
* 2 tb is overkill for a boot drive - Refer to my previous comment
* Good reviews on multiple retail sites and PC part picking sites

Works well, great price

Pros: Worked great to upgrade the 120 GB SSD in my Dell Inspiron 5770 laptop to 1 TB, and it's 3 times faster. CrystalDiskMark shows that the claimed speed is accurate -- a little over 1800 MB/s reading and writing, compared to 540/500 for the original SSD -- and this 1 TB card cost less than the 512 GB card I was considering. This 3D NAND stuff is definitely the way to go; you can't beat faster AND cheaper! It's also about 16 times faster than the D: drive, a 5400 RPM SATA HDD, which makes a BIG difference when editing 4K video, which is the main reason I wanted to upgrade.

I used EaseUS freeware to clone the existing SSD, which was very easy, but note that the extended space on the drive is unallocated, which confused me at first because the C: drive was still showing as 120 GB. You have to use some disk partitioning software (e.g. Macroit Partition Expert Free) to extend the C: drive allocation or define the unused space as a new partition. (If you want to make the C: drive bigger, you will need to move Windows' hidden "recovery" partition to the end of the card, but that's fairly easy to do.)

Cons: Not really a "con" for the card itself, but an external USB enclosure for an NVME PCIe card is about twice as expensive as a SATA enclosure -- and you do need to be sure to get one that will support these cards -- so that added another $25 to the upgrade cost. But even running as an external USB drive, this card is more than 3 times faster than the internal D: drive -- about 450 MB/s reading and writing -- so I'm thinking of getting another one of these cards to put in the enclosure.

Other Thoughts: Definitely recommended.

embarrassingly fast; embarrassing software

Pros: - x4 speed
- newegg

Cons: - software needs to include direct support for when the old and new drive sizes do not match (which is most of the time)
- outsourced software should have malware removed
- software bugs should be fixed frequently
- software prompts should explain why it is going away during extended periods of time
- Intel can do much better on this software

Other Thoughts: - beware of slower x4 for 512GB and smaller variants
- it is better late then never for Intel to release a newer version of software
