Software and workloads used in performance tests may have been optimized for performance only on Intel® microprocessors. Performance tests, such as SYSmark*, MobileMark*, and SPEC CPU are measured using specific computer systems, components, software, operations and functions. Any change to any of those factors may cause the results to vary. You should consult other information and performance tests to assist you in fully evaluating your contemplated purchases, including the performance of that product when combined with other products.
Measured by SYSmark* 2014, a benchmark from BAPCo* consortium, which measures the performance of commonly used productivity applications, such as Microsoft Excel* and Adobe Acrobat*. On HD video playback, compared to 5-year-old system.
Pros: FAST, Dependable.
Cons: NONE
Overall Review: Fully Recommended, while you can still get one.
Pros: An Intel i7 "K" CPU. 4.0GHz stock clock that can and will be overclocked.
Cons: Can't get beyond a stable 4.7. Runs up to mid 80s at stable 4.7.
Overall Review:
Only spend the money on an "K" CPU if you plain to overclock. With a "Maximus VIII Hero" board and "Water 3.0 360" I'm able to get a stable 4.7 overclock. But temps in the mid 80s are to high. I've set the overclock to 4.6 and the temps are in the upper 70s. A 4.6 overclock is not bad, but not great. I've read reviews of reported 4.8 overclocks on air. If that's true, they did win the CPU lotto.
Update: I've been running mine at 4.6 o.c. on a Maximus VIII for years. Was able to achieve a 24hr 4.7 o.c. At 4.6 o.c. the temps are in the 50-60s under load. The i7 6700K is just as good as any 9th generation i7 quad core. GPU-Z confirms this. The i7 6700k will be relevant for years to come.
I build to last. I build quality first because I'm on a budget and want builds to last. This is my 3rd DIY gaming pc. My first DIY was an Athlon 64 w/ 9700 Pro. Next was a i7 920 (this cpu has a lot of o.c. head room) w/ a 4890 and later a 7970. The i7 6700k with the 7970 and later a 580.
Pros: I've had this running at 4.3 ghz for the last 3 years and no issues. Cooled by Corsair H150i pro. Was an H110.
Cons: None.
Overall Review:
I bought this on sale for $320. Now its $600 3 years later. ?
Any one wanna buy a used cpu? ;)
Still humming along at 4.3 ghz 24/7. 04/2019.
Pros: runs as expected
Cons: none
Overall Review: Installed in early 2016 and still runs perfectly March 2019
Pros: As usual worked perfect in my new build from the get go for a couple of months. I've overclocked it to 4.6G with no problems,no crashes, other than secondary fans that have to run but for the most part I run it at 4G.
Cons: No cons
Overall Review: UPDATE: I've been using this CPU now for 2.5 years and not so much as a hiccup. Works perfect! I thought they had discontinued the 6700k but looks like it's still for sale. Great CPU............
Pros:
- CPU running strong at 4.6GHz OC'd with 50-60C on average during load, cooled via a REFURBISHED Corsair h105i AIO.
- Survived Prime95 26.6 overnight stress test.
- Paired with EVGA Z170 Classified K, overclocking was simple.
- Paired with EVGA RTX2070 XC Ultra, running just about anything high-max settings at 180-200FPS+.
Cons:
- Showing age during premiere renders.
- Beginning to struggle albeit BARELY with pushing high FPS (180+) at max settings in CPU intensive games.
- Hard to justify upgrading (especially if your CPU is a 10 series or higher).
Overall Review:
A few months ago I decided to really test my limits with this CPU as I was unsure about whether or not I should upgrade. In Canada right now, the $710 tag on an 9900k followed by a lack of EVGA z390 boards on the market... i'm tentative. Furthermore looking into a 9700k on a higher end z370 board or a z390 board, I begin to wonder for light workstation and mainly gaming use... is it really worth it? The overclocks I was able to achieve 4.6GHz @1.35V and i've been running that for a good while. Before that I was running 4.5GHz @ ~1.3V and still enjoying the boost. The benefits i've received in gaming are significant enough to last me for the time being. Marginally higher clocks on the 7700k seem insignificant imo... the 8700k begins to become appealing with an extra two cores and four threads, higher single core boost, and tacking on a 12MB cache to boot. Losing multithreading in the 9700k but gaining a whopping 4.9GHz boost out of the box seems to be an ideal upgrade if you've got money burning in your pocket... and furthermore the 9900k is going to be (of course) the best performance increase... but at a huge cost.
TL;DR Unless you're looking into a heavier workstation load, not looking to overclock or upgrade your cooling... why upgrade?
Pros: - Its been a couple years and it still runs great!
Cons: none

Overall Review: Upgraded from a Core i3-6100. The CPU is a major jump from my previous cpu, it’s very fast and a lot more powerful, I’m able to handle processes better
