Will this work with two windows 7 machines?

I use it with 2 machines running Windows 7, one a Lenovo Laptop and an other machine I build myself from components.  This is the first printer sharing device I have used.  I have problems with it on a regular basis, but know know if this is better or worse that any other device.

No.  Two computers sharing one Printer.

I no longer use this switch because I have purchased a wireless printer.

I found this switch to be problematic.  The first one quit working and the second one was a problem also.  I'm glad I got the wireless printer.

Does this come with all necessary cables?

As I remember, it came with two printer cables.  Since you likely already have one connecting computer to printer, this will likely be all you need.  However, depending on how far apart your two computers are, you may need longer USB cables.  The ones that came with it were fine to go from my wife's Mac to the switch and from the switch to the printer.  My computer was about 7 feet from the printer so I also bought a 10 ft USB cable.  By the way, I have Mac and PC sharing printer and has worked flawlessly.

Do I have to install the cd for it to work?

It's been a few years since I used it on a now-defunct system, but IIRC, yes, you do need to use the CD to install some software.  But you don't need it to use the switch; again IIRC it puts an icon in your system tray to toggle input.

What's in the box in addition to this item? I'll need a USB A-B cable, an application CD, and a quick start quide

Yes,that's  all u need.  It's pretty simple.

It worked great.  I got  about  a good years  use out of it then  one of the switches  stopped working.  At that  point I needed  to just update my entire system so it didn't matter.

It may not even have been the switch  my printers really weren't  compatible with my computer.
